  1. Those that do milling regularly will probably have a good idea of its worth by looking at it. But until it's milled, it's always a bit of a gamble. Not all tree surgeons mill, and some people only mill. So if you get hold of someone, explain what you want to do, and take it from there
  2. All I am seeing is a lot of heavy wood, and a good days work for 3, including dealing with the waste. But I don't mill. That may offset it a bit, but it doesn't mill itself. There's another days graft, I would imagine
  3. If you want to sell the wood you need to process it first, or get someone to do it for you. It will cost you more than the wood is worth, if you get someone in, unless it's of exceptional value.. Without pictures and more information, your location, the trees location, we are all in the dark. Don't think, because you've mentioned the word 'oak' everybodies eyes are going to light up
  4. Thanks. Got to admit, I don't flush the tanks regularly. I will try it. I got the 'extra tacky' stuff, like I say, found it great in warm weather. Out of interest, what do you use as a flush?
  5. I got some stuff last year 'gator'. It was great in the summer months, but I noticed, when the weather got cold it wasn't getting through. I should've suspected something, when it was taking several minutes to fill a top handle! Anyway, I'll go back to it in the summer. I've tried all sorts though, including 2 stroke mix when I was half asleep one morning
  6. I think it's a very good question, and there should be a definitive answer to it, but there isn't. It would be good for all, if there was. There's not many skilled, even semi skilled trades, where customers can't easily identify whether the trades person is qualified to undertake the work. I would say its sensible to get the tickets relevant to the work you do, but that's not an answer to your question. I have never displayed 'fully qualifed' on any of my trucks partly for this reason. I don't know what fully qualified is, and if challenged, either legally, or just by a customer on the doorstep, i would struggle to give the correct info. I haven't got every single cs module, not many have.
  7. Brilliant. Did you see the fella with a line conifers. He posted a photo saying help yourself. Pick one, first to come gets the best ones (you have to take them down yourself)😂
  8. Do what the customer wants... Or, if you don't agree, walk away. Someone else will probably so the job anyway. But I've given up trying to educate the public a long time ago. Christ, we even argue amongst ourselves about what is right, throw a member of the public in the mix and it's chaos!
  9. Put a hi viz on yourself, no one asks anything then. A gang robbed all the York stone outside the town hall, no one questioned it. Also got a mate got into a champions league quarter final with a hi viz with steward written on the back
  10. Thanks Rob. Yeah I've got the 1/4 sprocket. I bought the duc256cz, with a carving bar. I presume I can put a 3/8 on this saw if I want to go the other way.
  11. Hi Rob. I've just been doing a bit of research and it's lead me to you. Can you tell me if my bar or any 10" bar 1/4" pitch on my echo 2511 is compatible with the makita dup256cz? Thanks

    New Chipper

Very nice. I don't know why fold down chutes aren't an option. There's a lot of call for them
  13. Hi, does anyone know if there's a 10" bar 1/4" pitch compatible with echo 2511 and makita duc256cz? If they are compatible, which one do people recommend? Thanks

    Mower value

My thoughts. Or he's moving somewhere he doesn't need a mower. I'd take a gamble, say no thanks and hope he leaves it
  15. I think taking your chances on a pollard is your only option now. Looks like the ivy removal was a job in itself, and maybe all it needed. Did they offer any explanation as to what they did, and why? I don't think many could've walked away with it like that. Even if they were trying to do some sort of reduction, you'd think they would've stepped back and realised it hadn't worked
  16. Nice tree. Be a shame to do much to it. Copper beech though?
  17. I tried others and went back to mine. I find mine as comfortable as anything else I've tried. Expensive yes. But that probably tells you something. There's probably nothing on mine that are original. Bit like triggers brush. 'Best brush I've ever had, 5 new handles and 3 new heads'
  18. Stick with your Buckinghams
  19. Sorry to hear, but I suppose, if anyone stands a chance of recovering their stolen chipper, it's you!
  20. I've bead welded and 're ground rollers, not on a 530, but it was an old machine and it made a difference. Bit of a faff getting them out, but could be worth it, if you can do it yourself.
  21. Defo! I'm not a Miller, but I've seen the results of strawberry. Unfortunately, it was a couple of years after I had logged up the only one I've ever taken down.
  22. I can tell your conscientious and take pride in your work/reputation, in this case, I think the advise should be, don't admit responsibility. (I'd say its doubtful, anyway, that it's anything to do with you) I've also seen something similar caused by an angle grinder bein used to cut flags. Burrs of metal left on the patio. They don't show up straight away, until they have rusted. I would just sit tight. Not worry. If he pursues it, either ask him to prove it was you, or as somebody else suggested, if you have insurance, pass on to them. I can't see him pursuing it. I wouldn't have thought it would be worth his time.
  23. Was the patio even down when you priced the job? I wish people would get jobs done in the right order. It would make it easier for everyone. I priced a large pop at the bottom of someone's garden once. Ground surrounding it was an unkept border. Thought great. Chog onto that. Went back to do the job and they'd had a patio laid. No mention! ?
  24. What is he alleging has made the staining? Sap, chain oil? It looks more like rust marking. Do you think it was actually you that caused it? Ive seen the metal straps used to strap flags cause rust marks. But normally in a banding pattern. What is the pattern of the staining? Is it more prominent nearer where you were working? As for a remedy, if it's natural stone, it won't be easy, as whatever it is will have absorbed, and most detergents will stain/alter the stones natural colour
  25. Wouldn't it be nice, if when it failed, it landed on the summer house. Looking at the balance though, it would need a bit of persuasion
