  4. Nah mate, did it on a Friday, out of hospital Sunday, back at work Wednesday morning. My biggest problem was knocking over my cups of tea for about 3 months. [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  5. Last time I looked, my setup costs about 8k for saws, mills and misc. Then the 5k vehicle and 1.5k trailer And my mates 5k of saws and mills. Probably getting a new chipper and old 4x4 in spring another 7-8k. Oh and the yard and workshop. Training costs, tickets, ppe, Insurance blah blah blah... Hmmm Yup. Price just went up to £420 a day. Thanks guys [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. This really hurt the next day. [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  7. Been running a km130 for the last year. Great kit, loads of power, but with a 1m extension after a few hours I get a bad arm ache. Got an msa200 battery saw, really impressed. I really dislike exhaust fumes, vibration and the noise of petrol engines. Thinking of getting the electric shorter hedge cutter and maybe an extendable one for next year. I'm waiting for a 90cc petrol-saw to be replaced by a battery one. The futures electric. [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  8. My sympathies with your pain. You'll help people be more aware the dangers of the job. But my congratulations on a well kept, sharp pair of hedge cutters. [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  10. I'd also recommend several saws and mills. Each pre set for different thickness cuts. Saves so much time. Not to mention a high quality bench grinder for all the long chains, breaker, spinner, etc [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

    Chainsaws.

I did my course with my smallest saw, ms440 16" I mentioned I was retiring it after ten years to upgrade. Following week instructor emails me, I'd like to buy your saw. A 50cc will do the job, but a 70cc will do it faster with not much more weight gain. (And you can mill with it). [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  12. It's all in the course mate [emoji3] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. Alaskan milling is generally physically demanding. If you can't get the log out or a bandsaw in, it's because it's in an awkward place. No one mills small logs. Carrying out 10 foot slabs is demanding. Having your face 18" off an exhaust of an 880, even with aspen ain't fun. But it's a niche market, probably only do a few days a month. Not much real profit either, but start stacking your own and do some woodwork, it can be quite good. [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

    Chainsaws.

I use phrases like,"These machines will earn me lots of money, that I can lavish on you darling", or "I'm only getting a km130msa200261461661880 it's on offer darling" Any further questioning from the better half and I start reading aloud the codes from an ipl as way of an answer[emoji106] So far it's working... If you're in a garden, I'd recommend a 50cc saw, light and fast 12-18" bar. In the woods a 70cc is more an all rounder 16-25" bar. Milling? 90+cc. [emoji3][emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  17. I'm sure they're bigger this year. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  18. Arborisk, they advertise on this website. As far as risk assessments for the council, how far do they want you to go? Is there plant working on site or other stuff like sssi's? If the trees have already been felled it is less risk. I am interested in what you will need, please post any progress. [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  19. Check your insurance, I had to have a "special" add on. They said extra £600 a year for milling. I explained it was safer than felling and they stuck it on for free. [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  22. Employers liability insurance covers, volunteers and paid staff. All employers should have it by law. If you can get to Brighton, I'll give you a day or two. [emoji106] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  23. I run a stihl battery saw a lot now, moved over to motomix as well for petrol saws. Makes a massive difference when milling an 880 all day. Got to get a respirator though, masks just don't work enough. Use bio oil too. The usual stuff is highly carcinogenic according to stihl. [emoji107] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  24. Worked along side a bobcat some years back. When it ran we called it ten men. That's what it could do. Really handy extracting stems from in woodland. It does rag the ground and drip oil on expensive driveways though. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
