  1. Clearing out my workshop, got all sorts of British hardwoods, oak, s.chestnut, ash, beech, cherry etc. slabs, planks, shelves etc needs to all go before Friday 25th august. Buy one piece or all. by appointment only. call 07376803384 thanks
  2. A stihl 261 or husky similar as bill says above. Wouldn't personally recommend a top handle saw, purely on the basis of increased risk of kickback. Shouldn't really use them on the ground.
  3. Thanks Seventh, my knowledge of foreign wood is non existent. im going to be throwing different off cuts in to a bucket later.
  4. Gadzooks man! youre right! just googled "wood heavier than water". Do you know of any uk wood that's heavier than water?
  5. What's Wellingtonia? tropical?
  6. What woods don't float? (Apart from lignum vitae)

After spending lots of time, effort and money on repairing 051,056s and an 075. (Blew the oil reservoir/crank seals.) Finally got them fixed up, all oem. great saws. then bought an 880 and 661 new. after a few weeks I could never go back to using dinosaws. I loved my dinosaws but they got sold. Got a brand new oem decompression valve you can have if you need one?
  8. As a kid in Devon, I always wondered why the old cottages were all white except for a black band 2 feet high all round the base. They painted over the tar. primitive but effective damproofing. Some of the cottages were 400+ years old.
  9. Could make em out of seasoned hardwood. (Been doing it for years).

Yeah mate, oil tank is a b***ch. if the gasket has gone, oil will leak into crank case. the pipe leading to the oil pump from the tank may be partially blocked also? big nasty job.
  11. These are in hove/Brighton near the station. Didnt have time to examine really as the digger driver was working.
  12. Mentioned a while back about seeing wooden tar bricks for roads in a thread. saw these today from the same stretch of road being dug up again. must be a hundred years old and not in bad condition.
  13. Ideally get two identical power heads, or two which rev the same in the cut. Wouldnt imagine it's doing the 076 any good.
  14. Stack the stickers 12-18" apart, helps reduce cupping. put a balanced heavy load on top of the stack/ use ratchet straps.
  15. If you're not starting til 2019, I'd be sawing now. Stack it to air dry for a year, then get it kilned to about 10% mc. By the time it's out the kiln for a few weeks you'll know what's cupped/split etc. Less surprises after installation. i also presume your cladding is approx 25mm thick?
  16. Fine plasterers sand. £2 a 25kg bag.
  17. Post some pics/vids when you get going mate. good luck
  18. Don't trust new chains. from experience, the depth gauges can vary. Hand filing is a nightmare for milling. Have you got a decent chain grinder yet? match your depth gauges to the type, size and dryness of the wood. 0.6mm dry oak 1mm green/ fresh/soft (with a big saw). listen to the engine sound in the log. Keep the revs high, don't force the saw. hand file lightly every few cuts.
