  1. Lots to learn methinks........
  2. Ok booked a basic welding course and Mig with gas will be what I go for, thanks for all the advice. On a side note how long will the small disposable bottles last for is a it a few minutes or longer. Again its for occasional DIY use only so I don't want to pay rental.
  3. Mine stihl () going strong, no issues to date.
  4. https://www.amazon.co.uk/INVERTER-DIGITAL-CONTROL-DISPLAY-ACCESSORIES/dp/B01M4HMZNT
  5. Now thinking mig or tig would suit my needs, anyone used an "Andeli" set up - also for DIY I think the no deposit gas bottles would be best, how does it work do you just buy one and replace when empty?
  6. There are some good deals floating around, avoid the draper, nu tool type lathes, quality chisels is a must, you don't need many to get started. Don't forget a decent sharpening system, I use a slow speed grinder with white wheels as this is the most important aspect getting a good start. I started with similar to the below and did me for may years. Worth seeing if there is a local club (AWGB website) as they often have a "loan" lathe and tools to see if you like it before splashing out. Also a great wealth of knowledge and experience on tap. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Axminster-AWVSL-1000-Wood-turning-lathe-complete-hobby-kit-with-many-extras-/153283763283
  7. Nice very nice, but a lot for a DIY investment.
  8. Thinking of getting a welder for simple DIY use and general workshop stuff. Used to do a bit with a stick welder a few years back but would like to try a gasless MIG, any recommendations, advice, and pointers. Will be generally inside work only and fairly light metals.
  9. I have neoprene gloves for when I go shooting, bl00dy useless things, warmer without, so the wetsuit idea may be the same... Brrrr!
  10. Nice work as always, hows the new workshop, looks ideal?
  11. I hit 54 in September, I looked up from cleaning my teeth and my face was still looking down into the sink. Teeth keep falling out and I now need glasses most of the time, no hair and snow white beard. On the upside I can retire next year, I am happy with myself and very happy with my wife, I can afford my hobbies, and can smoke my pipe without the pi55 being taken.
  12. Ditto...... I will pay for that!
  13. YES I THINK A BOARD, LEDGE AND BRACE WITH T &G FOR THE BOARDS AND THREE STRAP AND PIN HINGES WILL DO IT A TREAT. THANKS FOR ADVICE.
  14. Following recent success with a framed T&G side gate I now need to replace carport doors my late father made some 40 years ago. Each door is approx. 77" x 46" (1955 x 1170) I will need to do a final trim to frame size on site as I will be making them in my workshop which is two counties away. Anyways my question is please, advice on the best construction style (I am hoping to keep the cost down so will be a softwood) considered a rail and style, then boarded or the inset T&G as on the previous project. Further advice on timber sizes to ensure the door is stable depending on the style would be appreciated.
  15. They are great for wood turning
  16. Never local is it......... And despite the common perception, most decent turners are happy to pay for decent timber.
  17. ITS NEARLY £800... For some ali extrusion and brackets........... I am in the wrong job!!!!!!!
  18. Do a google search on the best way to cut to get the bowl, and grain pattern you want. I would carve a huge bowl, or cut to get several smaller ones with nice grain patterns. Or mill it for a river table!
  19. I DIDNT THINK ABOUT THE REBARS IN THE FENCE POST!!!!!!! Guess it will be a chemical fixing.
  20. As per the title, these look to be self tappers for concrete has anyone tried them and are they any good or just hype? I attach some 4 x 2 to a concrete fence post and am worried that expansion fixings may cause it to blow, these seem ideal.

    Woodcock .

Had several put up during drives on our shoot yesterday. Thankfully the landowner had laid the law down to the guns and they all went on there way unharmed. Comments were made they were here early.
  22. That's how I started the thread as I c0cked up setting the grinder so not by design.
  23. Jeyes fluid seems to work as a strong chemical smell. not as good as it used to be but has been effective when mixed strongly and sprinkled via a watering can around our garden.
  24. Around £400 due to VAT and customs which I didn't allow for, expensive but a well made bit of kit that does a great job as safely as possible.
