  1. I have not tried any local mills yet until I know what I am asking for, also got to await final dimensions of the shed to price up, the customer also wants matching gates so could be a half decent job. Just wanting to find out the best balance between cost and durability.
  2. Axminster power tools or try The Tool Post
  3. I have been asked to clad a cart shed for a colleague with waney edge boards, I have no idea on what type of timber would be suitable and how to go about pricing - The cart shed is not finished so exact amount required to be confirmed. Anyone offer any advice please?
  4. I got mine from china via fleabay, I just did a search by bore and diameter etc and there were several options, but £1.99 with free delivery took some beating from ROC though....
  5. Wot he said about the Lidl one, now on my second wheel and not missed a beat....
  6. I just picked up around 150 shoes from a local farrier, £10, usually they get weighed in but I saved him the trip, just have to de nail and soak in citric acid to kill any rust and soak off and mud etc, then good to go.
  7. I had to work, but was good in the past........
  8. Yes I think in hindsight a turned center may just finish them off. I decided if any get nicked they may be worth offering for sale, a kind of market research.
  9. Having been a wood botherer for many a year I decided to get a welder to compliment some of the stuff I tinker with. A little patch at the front of the garden never grows anything so I made these out of horse shoes to brighten the place up. Ignore the male stump in the background
  10. Wonder what the monk wears for milling, perhaps a Class 1 Habit......
  11. There is a Benedictine monk who specialized in MP turnings. Brother Ciaran Forbes, one of Ireland's best woodturners, who lives and works in Glenstal Abbey, Co Limerick.
  12. Wasn't chestnut used for fencing, the pale fencing that I used to see around as boundary fencing, surely they wouldn't use something that rotted so quick?
  13. Some nice spalted birch today for bowl blanks. Chinese mill and saw keep going strong.
  14. The bandsaw is a very light duty domestic tool, don't expect to but bowl blanks or veneer on it......
  15. Yes seemed a bit strange to me, bit like a chef asking you to bring in your own steak......
  16. I have a rental property some distance from me, the bathroom needed some work doing so I went to trustatrader and found a local plumber with glowing reviews. met him at the job and we agreed £1000 verbally to replace the tiles with wet wall, and sort out low water pressure. He put the job back several times saying he had boiler emergencies over the Christmas new year period. During this period I asked for a quote, he said we had agreed£1k. Again the job is put back through January and February. I did hassle him as my tenant needed to book time off and had done so and been let down a couple of times. Anyways this time he calls me to say his supplier cannot get the wet wall panel and could I order them...... So I order exactly what he requested 3 panel and 2 x internal corners delivered to site, so out of reasons the job goes ahead. He calls me part way through to say the old tiles had pulled the plaster off the wall and it was awkward, as it was wet wall panels I wasn't too bothered and just said go ahead with the job. When he finishes my tenant calls me to say the shower now doesn't work, so back he goes and sorts this, the tenant also tells me that the wetwall is not finished at the ends and the plumber said he couldn't finish as I hadn't ordered the end strips, bear in mind I ordered exactly what he asked me. so I duly order the end strips delivered to site, but now he wont go back as the job had "over run". Then I get the invoice...... new bath taps at £107.99 and sink taps at £82.79 Bath Panel at £54.83 Misc plumbing items and sealant £48 and labour £1080 (for 2 days work) Now I have paid him £700, which to my mind this is the quote £1000 less the items I ordered at his request - this seems a fair price as I had asked for a written quote, and only got a verbal at £1000. The labour really stings as at 8 hour days, even with 2 of them its £55 an hour each - good money if you can get it. Please advice how to go about contesting the final bill without being unreasonable. - or have I just been ripped off!!
  17. Makes you realize we do play with fire sometimes, 12000v between the probes and all in the name of art!! Fractals video.mp4
  18. Well this metal work thing is taking off, always been a wood botherer till the welder arrived, have now added a plasma cutter (what a great tool) and a horizontal bandsaw.
  19. I did a similar job a few years back, was looking really good then just disintegrated, I had it taped and clingfilmed and it was just as well, shame as it was a really good looking hollow form. Give it a try but keep the gaffa tape handy!!!!
  20. I want to join a couple of small compressors together to one air hose. I am looking for an in line check valve (x2) to puy inline from each compressor so they don't fill each others tank (Ooooer!) Can anyone suggest what and where, just something I can put in the standard air line as I do not want to go to metal plumbing or copper tube etc..... would the below be suitable? https://www.bes.co.uk/1-4in-bsp-single-check-valve-110-c#product-details-tab
  21. https://www.r-techwelding.co.uk/mig-welder-r-tech-i-mig180/ Well I a MIG in the end as per the above link. Well recommended on the Forums with a three year collect and repair warranty. Found a local stockiest for the Hobbyweld gas which is a good size for the home user. So all set up and works a treat, but sure is going to take some practice. Lol.
