  1. Made a few more, looking at a LED light source as initially I made plinths with a small torch within, but looked a bit clumsy.
  2. Sorry Steve another question, why do the handle separate, is it strength issues?
  3. Mark, have a peruse of Lyle Jamiesons youtube channel he is pretty good on bowls and gives good straightforward advise I use his techniques a lot, simple and repeatable results. S.
  4. Cant take the credit for those, I admit to chickening out in the end and not setting my own up. I did buy a neon transformer to use but it wouldn't take an open circuit so no good, then I saw the posts of doom and decided against. very Very cool though....
  5. They do produce some amazing shapes though. https://www.woodworkingnetwork.com/news/woodworking-industry-news/death-prompts-ban-fractal-burning
  6. Careful Mark, There have been reported fatalities in the wood turning world with these Gizmos. S.
  7. I don't confess to understand websites and what's behind them, so if someone wants a website of their own what is involved and how much to set up and maintain.... just ball park figures?
  8. I made my fist jig myself but on the VB I wanted a custom job so treated myself. Using the carbide cutter as opposed to a scraper makes a big difference in finish, as long as the cutter is dead on the center they come out a treat. The resin orbs need a lot of hand finishing but timber just needs a quick clean up of the ends. I use a vacuum chuck but two cup chucks between centers will do the job, just keep rotating the mounting point a trimming away the shadows and it will be perfect. There is loads of You tube stuff to watch
  9. https://www.paulhowardwoodturner.co.uk/jigs-and-things/ I use Paul Howards jig with a custom mount for the VB36, not cheap but a great and accurate piece of kit.
  10. Now that's a result, don't forget something to sharpen them with mark.
  11. Try the same request here at the AWGB Forum, the more people that know the better. http://www.awgb.co.uk/awgbforum/index.php and another here https://www.ukworkshop.co.uk/forums/wood-turning-lathes.html Sorry but I don't have any myself or would have gladly passed them on to you.
  12. I use Easy composites water clear resin, its the best for what I do with a fairly long open time so I don't need to rush. I vacuum the bubbles out and cast in a pressure pot to squish any that are left, it seems to work well. I hot glue the burrs to the bottom of a yogurt pot and use that as a mold, the missus loves yogurt so always a few about, if not a quick mold can be made from correx card. I have a sphere jig for the lathe but with resin it is not so accurate as its a difficult material to turn well, so I finish off by eye then its lots of sanding and polishing, pleased though.
  13. As I don't make a living at this just covering costs and a bit for my time, besides you haven't seen it close up lol.
  14. Ok so now the orb has a plinth, I am not happy with the shape but it does work. Small led torch in the stem as a light source. I think it's cool but the stand needs to be less cotton reel more natural methinks.
  15. About 3 1/2" diametre will have a go at another and see if I can get my time and motion results lower lol.
  16. About 3 1/2" diametre will have a go at another and see if I can get my time and motion results lower lol.
  17. I guess to make £30 It seems a lot but with all the time, equipment and time involved it is a realistic price. This one took me a weekend so that's about £3 hour..... Lol I won't be retiring anytime soon. Would rather trade for interesting timbers than sell for beer tokens...
  18. Well I had a go at burls cast in resin and produced the below, my first attempt at castin resin, I intend to make a small plinth with a light source to show off the burl within. Something different. Thanks to Matt for the Burrs
  19. No me too I think a matt finish is much better especially on timber like this. nice piece.
  20. Below is a link the AWGB forum and a little thread on my home made vacuum chuck, if your interested....... http://www.awgb.co.uk/awgbforum/index.php/topic,5177.0.html
  21. I love these, the hollow form especially, is it a straight oil finish?
