  1. You will regret it if you let it go
  2. You packing up Steve?
  3. Well its still going strong, I had my first "commercial" job last weekend. A colleague at work is doing a barn conversion and had removed some 12 x 12 oak beams which he wanted to repurpose on the interior doorways and asked me if I could simply "rip em in half" So I turns up on site with the Chillaskan mill and my Chinese saw looking very professional. I spent a happy hour ripping the beams down the center for him. The guys on site had never seen a chainsaw mill before and were very impressed as they had suggested to my mate that he trundle them to a local sawmill and get them done on the band saw there. So for my initial £150 investment I have had over a year of "hobby" milling and a lot of enjoyment and experience. Best money I spent in ages and apart from the usual maintenance and sharpening that cheap Chinese saw just keeps on going.......
  4. This time next year Rodney.............
  5. I have made a couple in the past and filled the head with lead shot to add weight, you could always teach the good lady to dispatch by hand, the girls on our shoot were pretty good and humane at it.
  6. No haven't played with hook angles.... do tell?
  7. There are some bl00dy clever people out there, simply stunning.
  8. I normally sharpen my Granberg ripping chain at 20` and 0` but in a moment of madness I have done all the cutters at 0`, is it worth redoing or will it still cut until I need to sharpen again..... Fool!!!! check sharpener setting next time!
  9. Thanks for all the advice, I think this will be an ongoing issue to get the trees back to a manageable size and structure, thankfully they are not of commercial value I don't think I would want that responsibility if it goes "pear" shaped on the apple trees !
  10. Ok I have a fig and 5 mature apple tree that I need to go hard at this year, is there anything I need to put on the pruned wounds to prevent infection, rot etc or just let nature prevail? S.
  11. I had similar disks made after seeing Steve's, the image was of a prototype hence the typo. They are very reasonable, make your work very professional and can be easily made weather proof with a layer of epoxy, recommended to all. S.
  12. I have problems with all fruit woods, hit and miss as to usability after storage, but I isn't no expert, I just have more issues with fruit than any other timber, oh Holly comes close.
  13. Wot he said, looks cool.
  14. As spalted woods can be soft the grain damage can go pretty deep, I learned a lot from Lyle JAMIESON on YouTube regarding tear out and how to avoid it, his series of videos I think are a must for any wood turner. he explains not only how, but why he uses the techniques he does. Well worth a peek. Oh yes and his boring rig is brilliant, I purchased it a couple of years ago and its the best system I have ever used.
  15. I did a bowl full of eggs as a practice idea, a simple shape that is sooo hard to get right and actually look like an egg, a fair few of mine went airborne over the field next door out of frustration. Great practice though.
  16. Ok I`ll ask "what's a Moses staff"
  17. Are they for go or just show, patient work.
  18. "Its a JEEP If I had wanted a HUMMER I would have called your sister" I love that one
  19. Sounds like the banjo lock is a bit squiffy, it should lock anywhere you put it on the bed bars. I had a similar issue on an Axminster lathe, a bit of tinker time sorted it. Check all is straight and square and clean. Hope you get it sorted.....
  20. Owls well that ends well!
  21. What lathe are you using Mick, most should go up to and over center to allow for really small spindle, pens, finials etc......
  22. Now that is the question.........
  23. I did a similar thing Mick with some oak work tops that were going to be skipped, found it hard to get a good finish though.
  24. I set mine about 1/4 inch from the sprocket edge and clamp on, if the chain becomes tight to turn your too close to the sprocket, bar and chain should work the same as when the mill is not fitted.
