  1. Same thing happened to my 540, chain brake broke off breaking off the crankcase bit. Gutted really, otherwise lovely saw. I'd get the new electronic Stihl, Echos are alright for householders, landscapers and people who think that saving 150 quid over 3 years is important. I wouldn't have one on the van.
  2. Swallows nest inside your barns, Martins under eaves and gables outside. Once you know the difference they're easy to distinguish.
  3. Chip everything you can, stuff all that keeping it for logs. Mugs game (not logs specifically but mucking about trying to save stuff from the jaws for a few quids worth of wood)
  4. You've got a few bits and bobs knocking about, no doubt about that.
  5. On occasion I have subby climbed for frenchies, this involves a long lunch with super strength coffee to finish, after that, when I climb my heart rate increases and I feel strangely agitated and nervous even on routine work.
  6. Charlie "the sandwiches are in the truck, what are we waiting for?" Me. "The lads just texted, there going to be 10 minutes late" Charlie "but what about the sandwiches numb nuts?"
  7. S'alright I spose:001_smile:
  8. Ah g'wan then! Second day on the job.[ame] [/ame]
  9. So I loved multiplat? Is that such a crime? Better than these itty bitty tangly spangly ropes with names like Autistic Tiger or Insane Gibbon Cum, that simply HAVE to be matched with the right boots called Bratwurst Brown Floaters or the like.
  10. I think I can guess and it rhymes with logsbite. It's a case of engineers getting carried away with themselves and forgetting about the end user's priorities. I was using the grinder today (rather I was lying down in the van with my bad back and the lad was grinding) made a tidy sum in an hour. €500 or so euros once a year is no big deal for a quicker machine. I got a new chipper lately and the salesman started quoting fuel usage to me. I had to stop him and explain that I don't give a toss about a couple of litres a day, GIVE ME MORE POWER!
  11. What about Rayco? A quick check on their website shows that they don't start hydro cutter wheels till 70 hp.
  12. I had the same thing, after a while of paying in cheques and cash into my personal account they just told me I needed/was obliged to have a business account. Got away with it for a while I suppose.
  13. I don't think you can get three strand anymore, or multiplat. Would be nice though.
  14. Yes they are expensive, and if they're not fitted right can eat bearings and pulleys. Grinding is dull but very lucrative, I'd hate to be on an endless row of conifers cursing the lack of power, the knowledge (or belief) that 6months down the line I'd save on fitting a new belt would be scant consolation.
  15. Thanks, I'd be rather depressed if a new 50hp machine couldn't out grind a 34hp. Not hard to fit a belt.
  16. Do you get the same head speed on a hydro head?
  17. If you find a way to avoid it, let minnow.
  18. Now now, no need to act like anemones.
  19. Tough one, I'd say no, just buying it and hoping to hire it out doesn't sound like a goer to me. Why not try and get the work yourself? stuff like hedges and small trees you can do yourself, bigger stuff you can hire in a climber.
  20. I just use an Otterbox cover on my iPhone, I never carry it at work anyway I leave it in the van, comes out at break times for calls, emails and Arbtalk.
  21. Nice big smooth rigging. At a guess because the logs looked like they were flying off dangerously, possibly more of a slope than it looks from the vid.
