  1. I have had two insurance claims over the years, one for an asbestos shed roof, I broke a sheet and the whole lot had to be replaced by men in spacesuits. Then a smashed sewer pipe which required honey wagons etc. Insurance company never asked for second climber/LOLER. Just my experience.
  2. The 230 will knock your 125 into a cocked hat. I've used all of the TWs you mentioned.
  3. Good stuff Ben. Always nice when you can take over from a lesser mortal! Question for you, there was a big piece that you chained near the middle and when it broke off the butt end seemed to swing a bit toward your position. I would have thought that tying/chaining a piece like that near the top would be more controlled. Or was what you did intentional? Bear in mind I have little to no knowledge of crane dismantling so it's just a question, not a critique.
  4. Yes, thanks for making the effort Paul, good work!
  5. I have no idea but would be interested to know. People plant poplars here on poor boggy ground then wait 30 years or so and harvest them. I often wonder about the mathematics of it.
  6. I've had a google about and they weigh just under a tonne. They seem underpowered, overweight and generally out of date compared to European chippers. Yanks seem to do very good big stuff, but really really bad small stuff.
  7. https://www.facebook.com/groups/1438926289712224/for_sale_search/?forsalesearchtype=for_sale&availability=available&query=Timberwolf Few on here.
  8. The Charentaise Rondinaud slipper ? Port Franc In a strange twist I have worked at the factory owners house, Monsieur Rondinaud. Great bloke, let me talk in French for a good half hour till he tired of listening to me mangling his lingo and broke into perfect English. The prices are for originals, mine were picked up for a tenner from supermarche.
  9. Authentic charentaise slippers is what the cognescenti are in these days...
  10. Yes I'm sure you're right. I never will though.
  11. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/97599-things-i-havent-done-without-consequence.html I've never polished my chainsaw boots, I have to say the biggest problem I get is the soles separating from the uppers, would that be solved by polishing? That happened more when I was doing lots of conny hedges, getting my foot stuck in a fork and yanking it free. Here's a picture of my boots to enhance your Friday night. I don't know their names.
  12. Nasty awkward stuff done well, thanks for posting. Were the stumps left like that to keep the slope secure? Robinia coppices pretty well.
  13. So where is it to be found?
  14. Sorry, missed this post. Explain "wind up" please. Could you mean that if I spin the wheels a bit on mud it'll "unwind" and be easier to come out of 4wd?
  15. Looks good Bob, but I'm a simple soul. I'm going to visit my brother in Yorkshire later on this month, I'll pick up a cheaper one there.
  16. I've always done my TW by feel, apart from when a blade came off and ruined the anvil and pocket it's been fine!
  17. IMO, you'd be better off replacing the whole tree. It's possible it would regrow to form a tree of some description, but it could also die very quickly. Maybe plant one nearby and retain your "stump tree" see what happens. Get some deer guards of course!
  18. The first two posts in this thread seem a bit too contrived to be true IMO
  19. Goddam it, I'm going to sell mine and buy a Jensen because of that. Curse you God for playing such a foul trick on me!
