  1. Yes, that wants to come out sooner rather than later. Best course of action? Plenty on here who know all the legal ins and outs. But initially I’d send a recorded delivery letter (take copies obviously) stating your concerns, with photos and indicating that you believe it to be dangerous, and that should the worst happen he can’t claim ignorance. He may just think it’s not worth the effort and get it out.
  2. You can have mine in exchange for a newer one if that suits?
  3. Bit of a change of scenery, we’re renovating a couple of houses on the coast near Royan. Filled a 10 cube skip with rubble in a couple of hours, the machines ability to get into the house and put it directly in the skip was a cause for much pleasure amongst those of us who’ve paid our dues pushing wheel barrows.
  4. As others have said, I wouldn’t muck about with a reduction, out or nothing. Crane it, charge the earth for it, and if you don’t get it, even better.
  5. Most firms would have walked in there, looked at the access and the tree and given a price in 45 seconds. You couldn’t compete with a firm with a 6” chipper and tipper. I would venture that the client realised you were out of your depth fairly early on in the process. Keep going though, a chipper is first on you list to buy.
  6. Yes, quite probably. Been awhile since I sold mine.
  7. Aren’t a lot of the relays the same? Can’t you switch a few to see if you get a light?
  8. Is this an ‘ok boomer’ type dig at us oldies?
  9. You’ll need to post some photos, without them no one can offer any meaningful advice.
  10. Ticking is the fuel pump isn’t it? Possibly the barrel?
  11. Unlikely imo, push it over 750kg and they (QCs) are not renowned for having a robust construction. Maybe they’ll throw the last of the Isuzu 55hps in the 200. Just pointless speculation you understand.
  12. Paid off the finance on the Ranger in November. Treated it to some new tyres and a service. Think I’ll run it for another few years rather than chop it in. Lovely truck, bags of power for towing and still turns a few heads.
  13. Used engine oil is nice and thin, never blocks up my saws. (makes pretty patterns on the rivers when I’m working for the water authorities, which is a bonus)
  14. If nothing else this thread has brought the word ‘goolies’ back from the 70s
  15. It takes literally seconds to transfer money between accounts, you can add the invoice reference to keep the accountant happy. Sometimes I have to use my personal account to buy stuff for various reasons, I just move it over with a reference like ‘filters €25.98’ plus supply the receipt, everyone’s happy. I know what you’re saying, but the OP asked about banking cash, and Lampy gave a great suggestion to save money.
  16. Well, I can see both sides, when I was back in the UK I had a mate with a tree company,I climbed for him sometimes, and he hired me stuff when I needed it. He ground all my stumps on a Saturday until I bought my own grinder, and on bigger jobs I’d call him and his gang in to rattle it out, and vice versa. We never did anything FOC for each other, but if I’d screwed up a price he’d cut me some slack on his bill. It worked well for both parties. But on the other hand I fully understand and respect those that give no quarter and expect none in return, it’s a tough business, why help out the opposition? Here I have nothing like that, I sub for a few landscapers from time to time, but it’s strictly business.
  17. I never claimed any formative pruning was at play. A birch is a short term amenity tree (certainly if it’s close enough to the house to slap the window) The client couldn’t sit there for years watching (and listening), waiting for stem taper to manifest itself, something had to be done, so 5ft was taken off which solved the problem. If, over the course of the next few years, some multiple leaders appear, so what? Trim it or fell it when it’s no longer wanted.
