I don’t hate pricing, on a sunny Saturday driving round the countryside I’m quite agreeable, especially if I get the first one or two then I’m on a roll. I quite enjoy hearing other’s rationales and figures. Makes an interesting thread.

Perhaps, but there’s a gate in the photo of the OPs house so some sort of entrance to remove wood etc, take out a panel of fencing, Bob is your mother’s brother.

It’s not the size of the tree (6” or a foot) that determines the price pro rata. It’s an easy enough job but that only means you DON’T put on the pita tax, not that it’s going to be cheap. Its the time and effort getting to and parking in London that costs. So getting into London, setting you truck and chipper up somewhere nearby, getting it down and out of a back garden, then getting it all off site, using a pedestrian grinder to get the stump done. 2k including vat, does seem a little excessive, I’d put it at £1200 plus VAT.

Well done. I rescued an exhausted hedgehog who was caught up in garden netting. Put him in the van, managed to extricate him while he was still in a ball, put him in a sheltered spot and cracked a raw egg in front of him. Went back half an hour later and him and the egg had gone. Not quite as heart stopping I’ll admit. -
Seen the odd one here for a few days now. About the same time as every year.

I’ve seen them on Instagram a bit. Seem ok but not earth shattering. I think the Avant loader (depending on size) already has a very decent pull, so if it’s just for persuading trees over that usually does it. I opted for a petrol powered winch so I didn’t have to drag the loader around just to get some pull on site.

That might explain why I couldn’t find a single example of a tree surgeon (or whatever, you know what I mean) being prosecuted for damaging a nest in the course of his work. If others can find one then fine. So @Khriss if your ‘how to avoid’ is how to avoid prosecution then it’s a bit like how to avoid being mauled by a leopard in Bury St Edmunds, simply put, it’s not going to happen.

How to avoid what? The original question seems to be how to deal with the public.

When’s the last time a tree surgeon was prosecuted for nest disturbance? I’m talking about pigeon, small song birds etc. Not eagles. Not saying it doesn’t happen, just like to see the examples.
