  1. We don’t want disappointment Pete, we don’t want to have to accept mediocrity, we don’t want to adjust, we want performance, we want improvement and to be buzzing at the sight of wood/brash disappearing at a pleasing speed.
  2. Weavers, triple strand, steel fixed eye Krabs, Swedish strops, all of my favourite gear unavailable or no longer made. Is the universe trying to tell me something?
  3. Yeah, tickled. One glass too many last night.
  4. I was with an old eccentric client quoting a big stump grinding job last week. He was moaning about the price and saying he’d lost 300k on the stock market (just banter you understand) and I should trim the price for his reduced budget. I told him that I didn’t put my money in the stock market, I bought a stump grinder. That tickled the old bastard. (Didn’t get the job though)
  5. Ticked me that one Kevin.
  6. Agreed. Don’t get me wrong, I use a Weaver, so no axe to grind. The makers of the Treemotion have a product people will pay a premium for, don’t want to pay it? Don’t buy it. They're in business, as we are.
  7. Openspaceman on the previous page refers to them.
  8. It’s a no from me, not remotely bad enough for inclusion, see similar everywhere round here.
  9. Yes, the name eluded me for a while.
  10. You’ll be more nervous than a virgin at a prison rodeo!
  11. I just want to congratulate you on the amount of metaphors you’ve used. fish to fry make hay weather the storm trousers down Gravy train hitting the buffers (two in one) resting on laurels tap is turned off. Marvelous stuff:)
  12. @Mark Bolam Reminds me of a story. My mum used to bake Irish bread for us, it’s unleaven so a bit sort of primitive but nice anyway. So down the lane there were a couple of hipster (it was the late 80s so that didn’t exist but you get the idea) poofs who owned and ran a kennel for Great Danes got to hear about it and asked her if they could have some of it ‘happy to pay’ For a number of years one of them used to turn up every few days to collect and pay the 50p or whatever, if we didn’t have the change for a quid he’d get a bit anxious, I don’t know if he thought us Oirish with no self control would lose our minds with all that extra money and descend into drunkenness but we had to find it anyway. Pissed ourselves laughing about them regularly. Mum never worked up the courage to tell them she couldn’t be arsed. They moved away in the end.
  13. Cos they’re quite heavy and big to manœuvre. Great chipper though, I had one with the 55hp Isuzu engine.
  14. Won’t work. What if you’re pricing keen to keep them in work and you’re not making a lot? They’ll still want their bonuses. Best to let them off early as a bonus when the jobs finished early.
  15. I can sometime spend all Saturday crisscrossing the area quoting like a madman Then for no reason whatsoever it dies off and I’ve no work to look at all. So yes, I do find it comes in waves. Can’t help on how to get more work in the UK.
  16. I run a Rayco 35hp used to run a super junior 25hp. Rayco and Vermeer are popular makes over in Europe. Good quality, silly bloody threads on the nuts and bolts of course!
  17. If you’re not fussed about doing the work, walk away. If you need the work (and I have been in this situation before) and everyone is washing their hands of it, I’d just do it.
