  1. Windy (not me kite surfing btw) IMG_2010.MOV
  2. It’s a horse chestnut that’s been topped 20/25 years ago. They don’t like it much and it’s usually a precursor to this sort of decline. It is an easy enough dismantle for any competent tree bloke, no need for any traversing or any of that.
  3. Why don’t you guys use what3words?
  4. I journeyed from here (north of Bordeaux) to Durham to pick up a Land Rover tipper I had put a deposit on. As soon as we turned the corner and I saw it a little voice in my head said ‘don’t buy it, it looks knackered and the blokes a shyster’ But I’d come this far….. Cue 5 years of misery.
  5. Make sure you are fully prepared to walk away if you don’t like it. When you go a long way it’s easy just to buy it just because otherwise you’ve wasted a day!
  6. Being organised, being where you say you’ll be, paying your suppliers, calling people back and keeping on top of your paperwork is what sorts the wheat from the chaff in this game. As has been said, everyone gets it wrong from time to time, even the big boys. I try and make a point of ensuring I do all of that stuff before I have a drink of an evening. Also, don’t lie to people, if you’ve forgotten, apologise and say you’ve forgotten. They’re more likely to forgive/believe you and then you don’t have to remember the lie when you see them.
  7. I still forget appointments, get days mixed up. Usually when I’m taking calls trying to organise stuff at work, in the van at lunchtime. Just be more disciplined about writing stuff and checking your diary every morning in case you have an appointment later in the day.
  8. I have to do the same in the Ranger. Shunt forward and backward, ease it up against the handbrake. Sometimes its a right bastard.
  9. 2 years on, almost to the day, this tree is better than ever, even with a more sombre sky behind it. A little later this year, blossom still pink, will turn white in a few days (like post 1 on this thread)
  10. Therein lies the rub with winching stumps out.
  11. Now what are you going to do with it?
  12. That’s just FB talk Stu. You make it sound like The Gilet Jaunes. Lot of hot air and newly qualified peeps, all trying to outdo each other in the ‘righteous arb’ stakes.
  13. Will get these, already asked at the dealership.
  14. It’s to do with his history, he posted how he is dad was a climber and a bit feckless. So he projects his anger that he feels for his father at tree workers on here, getting all superior to get back at his dad.
  15. It’s important that you and @eggsarascal understand, we don’t give a shit what you think. Not even a tiny bit.
  16. He’s not wrong though (Briscoe I mean)
  17. You what now?
  18. Interesting read. Well done on chasing the quotes, something I’ve never got round to, but should.
  19. M’y brother did a bit of a road trip to Russia a couple of years back. Said the cities like Saint Petersburg and Astrakhan were fairly impressive. Nearly everywhere in between was fairly grim, god awful roads, you couldn’t drive at night because you couldn’t see the potholes which would destroy your vehicle. People living in medieval conditions in the countryside, really poor infrastructure. Once he crossed the border into Poland from Ukraine on his way back it was like he was in Germany (his words) lovely straight well surfaced roads, nice houses etc. One of the reasons he’s a big fan of the EU. You don’t wonder why the Ukrainians look west and want some of that.
  20. I did a search using ‘heave’ on thread titles. Lots of threads talking about risk of etc. But I couldn’t find any genuine cases of it.
  21. The school where my nephew and niece go changed the name of a wing of the school from the JK Rowling wing to something else because of what she has said. Madness.
  22. Let’s start with what you pay your employees and how much you charge them out at? Then we’ll see how we go.
  23. That’s a good point, any science sorts on here got an explanation? In fact heave is one of those things that you read and hear about, but I don’t think I’ve seen a single verified case on here.
  24. In answer to both your questions. No.
