  1. Builders, farmers, councilors, no one is safe from the steely gaze of justice of Cornwall’s Eye of Sauron
  2. I would say builders have more complex finances than us, certainly more overheads. We don’t have to buy materials with VAT, don’t have to buy stuff up front, we often get paid on completion, rarely are on site for longer than a few days.
  3. When you say stage three what were 1 & 2? Were they done over the years or recently? Is the tree compromised in some way? I may have missed the story in earlier posts, if so sorry. TIA.
  4. 58 this year, what of it? What interaction or reaction are you referring to where I have not wanted to be regarded as old?
  5. @Steve Bullman can you change the spelling on the thread title please. Makes us look like (bigger) idiots.
  6. It Hi mick, sorry if I weren't clear, with regards to internet banking I was meaning people such as elderly people who may not have internet banking and prefer to pay in cash, not you (as in company), I honestly didn't think cheques still existed. Cheers. I re-read it and yes, I see what you meant now.
  7. If you’re in business you should have internet banking. 95% of my clients pay by chèque.
  8. My God this business has changed. Not always for the better.
  9. Forget the guys name, but a member on here did a massive cedar removal in a graveyard. No crane, all rigging. Lovely stuff it was.
  10. Odd sort of tree to put in a graveyard. Nice work.
  11. It’s not just them that saves a few quid though is it?
  12. Here’s the photos in case anyone can’t be arsed to open the Imgur thing.
  13. Can I ask where you got the info the wild cats eat pine martens?
  14. Been meaning to ask, what do you do as a job in the business? I’ve no doubt you have plenty of experience and knowledge in the tree business from the ground floor up from your posts, but somehow or other other I missed what role you play now. Nothing sinister, just need to know so I can organise my future arguments/insults
  15. Now that is a high pressure site. Done a few myself. Damage would be a very bad PR.
  16. Have you got a tax inspector over your shoulder or something ? You have never taken folding for a job, ever?
  17. Just tell them fine, but there still the VAT on it as it all goes in the bank. I would find your reply irritating. You are practically telling them you’ll dob them in and they’ll go to jail.
  18. They’re impressive cutting tools, no doubt. But I have never used one either, there was a period around 10 years ago when they were de rigueur, when I said I’d never used one it was met with disbelief. As others have said, the lightweight and battery chainsaws seem to have filled the gap to a certain extent. I used to see an awful lot of injured hands and fingers due to silky cuts as well.
  19. Just walk away from a knotweed job, I’m sure it’s doable but do you want phone calls for years saying it’s back? Just my 2c of course.
