  1. Where are you based? Ideally looking for freshly felled
  2. I'm after some large diameter softer, hardwoods for some carved bowls. I'm in Ashford,Kent and can collect, happy to either pay or trade for work help.
  3. Cheapest is the gransfors or wetterlings ceramic sharpeners. 325/600 combo grit used wet gives a good edge. If you spend a little more get some dmt folding diamond files in red and green 600/1209 grit. These will get you hair shaving sharp and to top it off a leather strop for final polish. The best way to make that axe better is to file the bevels flat and work up to around 600grit then strop and use.
  4. Some new some old, some finished and some still drying. All turned from green wood
  5. I'm just curious to see the 60 with one on. Love my 372 with it on
  6. 372 handles available through dealer. I paid around £95 for mine. Love to see one for the 560
  7. My 560 is the current fav. Bags of power and good weight, starts second pull and runs all day long.
  8. Anybody else into Spooncarving? I have been cranking loads out lately getting ready for the summer shows and wondered with all the access to fancy wood you guys have if you make spoons? Here's a few recent shovels.
  9. It's an 92 rodeo. Milners have most of the parts I have needed but not the best of quality on everything. Main declares have mega waits on parts as well.
  10. I have an older model Isuzu rodeo. It's a great truck but parts are only available from a handful of places. I'd say make sure you can buy parts for it before buying whatever you choose.
  11. Able to get a 16" for a 372 Rob?
  12. Got back from holiday knowing my brakes were shot, limped it back to the garage mechanic tells me needs everything 😳 Ordered a bunch of parts and then told they are wrong by my mechanic, yay. I just want my truck back.
  13. Scotts a great teacher as well as Dave. Nice location with a variety of trees to learn on. I'll definitely be back there for more tickets when I have some money.
  14. When I deal my logs for greenwood projects I use pva. I normally slap this on as soon after felling as possible. Anything that will seal the pores will do, paint, wax and glue all work but I have a few bottles of cheap ova to use and it seems to be the best I have used.
  15. I have my little tirfor but the rope option seems an easier idea. Cheers Matt that stuff doesn't to look to expensive.
  16. I'm in need for a new line after cutting mine the other day 😒 I cut a bunch of coppice but am slowly working into my arb tickets so hoping to future proof a little. Need a line for pulling in edge trees, sometimes with a few pulleys in to increase the pull. I figured a rigging line would do the job and also allow me to use it for arb jobs when I get there?? Or am I better just buying something cheap and hop it lasts?
  17. Cold pressed linseed oil is the ticket, no drying agents or toxic/rancid problems with it. For a slightly tougher finish a mix of linseed and pure beeswax melted together and applied hot to the board will be great.
  18. Just had one fitted to mine. Tank itself was around £140 from dealers. Had it fitted and a few bolts replaced was £300 total job.
  19. I figure using epoxy to stick to plastic runners down the bottom?
  20. Just got my 372 back after the tank split at the seam and had a new one fitted. Now I'm trying to figure out how to prevent it again, the seams the lowest part of the saw and comparing it to my 550/560 they have rails along the base. Anyone made a skid plate or similar to help the issue???
  21. Had the 550 about a year and apart from a brake band it's been fine. The 560 is a few weeks old and cut an acre so far. Great having the heated handles. I have found not to let them run dry or can be a bitch to start and let them warm up a little each day.
  22. I run both a 550 and 560 for mainly coppice and there great. The little 550 on a 13" bar flys. Lpx chain and it tears all day long.
