  1. £250 sounds a reasonable amount, do most of you guys have land from farmers that your using over private land owners?
  2. You sure about that Chris? I figured the local could be a good place to go.
  3. I got this and a few other tree books, always learn from books and it beats school
  4. Thanks Chris, that's a really good answer, I guess I better top up the diesel and get out exploring.
  5. The cash each week sounds a lot easier than the 'proper' way but I get where your coming from
  6. Trying to find some yard space, mainly for storing firewood, milling logs and some greenwood courses in. It's confusing me how to find somewhere, local farmers seem an obvious option but not sure what I should be paying and also if I'm allowed to put up roofs over log stacks and such. Won't be keeping any tools there or machinery, I'm guessing hard standing would be better than grass but I'm open to anything. How did you guys secure your yards and roughly what do you pay/what size?
  7. Been using oregon for a while and not noticed any difference between hot/cold. Keep meaning to pop down and grab some of the rye oil stuff see what it's like.
  8. It's always a bad day when you need fresh pants 😜
  9. Thank you sir, I'm currently on a 22 which is just a little to long I think. An 18 or 20 sugi bar may be the best for me I think.
  10. Does such a thing as a 16" sugi bar exist for a 372?
  11. I had the free form and everything, then used it to get a fire going in the woods 😒
  12. Apparently people don't like riding in the bed of my truck when there's more than just me 😜 Ended up using the money to fix more bits on the truck.
  13. I'm hoping it's not just me who ends up with junk all over the back seat of their pick up? I'm trying to think of ways of organising it all and keeping at least one rear seat, so far I'm thinking sliding drawers In place of the seat base, full height cupboard? I'm talking about things like cups, coffee, jetboil, hand tools, spare pants and similar smaller items. All my saws and fuel ride in the back just be nice to have some tidiness in the back rather than flexi tubs and stuff everywhere.
  14. I figured it sounded a little to much of an increase in power. You running full chisel on that as it's flying through that maple.
  15. This saws also got a big bore kit on it with a supposed 90cc. Guess that I'll be having a big smile on my face tearing the trees down with a small bar
  16. So it's definetly doable then, I better have a chat with RobD see what he has available for it and get it running and out into the woods. Would you say an 8 pin sprocket until I put the 22/24" bar back on and then out a 7 back on?
  17. Just watched a vid of a guy stateside running a 372 on a 16" bar, I'm guessing with an 8pin sprocket as well and he was flying. I know they run an 18" fine but a 16" would let me use it for coppice work, but I think my arms may be a little longer by days end with the weight of it.
  18. As CharlieH says Brambles are fun tripping you over, they somehow even wrap your ankles when your standing still. It's been a warm winter so far and as you say it's best weather most days, even in the rain. Fire smoke choking you when the winds blowing the wrong way and trouble trees getting hooked in everything. But the rewards of a fire cooked fry up, working your own hours and being left to work is great. Also I can't think of the last time I wore hi vis in the woods.
  19. I'm back cutting firewood coppice lately and it's a good site, easy vehicle access and windy enough for the fires to keep blazing. But as others have said after a week of 8/9 hour days you can't wait for the weekend to come.
  20. New blade, check your tracking, check the tyres for resin build up. Worth setting all the guides to zero and working from fresh.
  21. Sorry to confuse. As skyland say it's the small block melting onto the spring. Hoping once it's back it should be a good saw.
  22. I grabbed a bargain 372 a while back off eBay but hadn't used it until the other day when the brake decided to stop working. When I bought it the guy told me it had a big bore kit fitted and was around 90cc?? The plastic block and springs have melted and I'm wondering if it's due to the power increase? It's in getting fixed now but hoping that's not the case.
  23. Hoping to look at some echos this weekend, are the 170/171 stihls pretty plasticky?
  24. Whatever you buy if your going into London check it goes into the lez zone or it's a hefty fine A few guys I know use jimnys and vitaras, good off road and not bad to tow. Also a forester would give you a low range box, towing, comfort and decent economy.
