  1. Have been at the "real" job every day over the holidays, including the weekends, but did manage a 1/2 day on the logs on Saturday. Planning a big weekend of tidying up and sorting my barn out this coming weekend.
  2. I agree split early to avoid log shrapnel
  3. Used the revamped 440 today and it went great but still think I’ll replace it as i can’t help thinking it will let me down at a critical moment. 435 here I come !!
  4. I do recall in a previous thread that the decomp valve was referred to as the “poof button”,( I use it all the time as I’m getting older ).
  5. 4.85 tonnes.
  6. Trouble is I’ve done a bit of work on the 440 and it sounds quite good And running ok again. Might just get the 435 anyway as the 440 doesn’t owe me anything!!
  7. Had a look at the 435 and it looks like a lot of bang for your buck so think that’s what I’ll go for.
  8. Really impressive, here in Cumbria they seem to lay everything close to the ground with no supports or ties. Yours looks like a piece of art in comparison.
  9. Hi all, My trusty husky 440, that I use for light firewood, is needing replaced, it's been a cracking wee saw and I've been very happy with it. It will need replaced soon so should I go new for old or is there a better altermative. I would prefer husqvarna as my other saws are husqvarna. Would even consider battery if people thought they were up to the job. Budet could go to £300 max. Your sage opinions would be highly appreciated.
  10. Had an Artic Cat, 700cc diesel, pulled like a train, till it got nicked ! Whatever you do make sure it’s well secured cos they are very nick able!
  11. I don’t climb and am quite short and broad, (fat), I wear chaps cos trousers don’t fit well enough and am likely to trip over the over long legs !
  12. I got a weekend demo once, I did eventually buy it too, (husky 440).
  13. a drip tray and keep you gear clean is the best way, although I'm a bit OCD on cleaning my kit.
  14. I’ve used BRISA knife supplies, they are in Finland and have great stuff.
  15. Looks very much like an ENZO drop point. Lovely work sir !
  16. A new wind stopper fleece. Best presents are too yourself from yourself, cos you know you like it and it fits !???
  17. I'll take it down tonight and see what i need and give L&S a look in the new year as i won't be doing much over the Christmas period.
  18. Bloody bad luck, have you had an open repair, as this gives the best long term outcome ?
  19. I thought that genuine would be the way to go, just asked in case I was missing a trick. So now I've an excuse to be in the shed and not wrapping Christmas presents !
  20. After the weekend it looks like I'll be fixing the husky 440 starter mechanism ! bloody good little fire wood saw and runs for ages on a single tank of fuel, this has been my go to firewood saw for some time and has been a great little worker. Will I need to get husky parts or are non -generic bits ok for the starter mechanism ??
  21. The y do quite a bit of damage and are really just tree rats, they breed at a prodigious rate and controlling them is an issue round my way. Local guy trapped and killed over 300 in a year and they are still plentiful. haven't seen a red for years !
  22. Great pics merry Christmas one and all.
  23. 100% agree common sense and respect for the job are the best ppe.
  24. I couldn’t agree more about deer control, they do tremendous damage to young trees round my way and they’re numbers are going through the roof.
  25. I went on a course years ago and the guy told us to put a sticker on the most dangerous part of the saw, we all got it wrong by putting it on the chain. We should have put it on our foreheads ! Common sense and respect for the tools and the job your doing is the most important. Helmet with cans and visor a must, so are trousers or chaps ( I have both but prefer chaps), chainsaw gloves are not needed just decent well fitting and dry work gloves ( pound shop can be a good source of these). Also have your phone handy, just makes sense. And if a job looks dodgy the first time you look at it walk away 'cos your first impression is usually right.
