    Ideas

I sell my wife's expensive shoes on eBay. She doesn't even notice; she has that many!
  2. I've been a victim of theft. My saws, climbing gear etc. I want to kill the thieving scum. They are no different. BUT, what I do like to think about in this particular case is the meticulous planning, surveillance and attention to detail that must have happened in the run up to the job. It must have been something straight out of a film. As said before, if only this ingenuity could have gone into something constructive.
  3. EWebz. His name is Billy. Found him to be really good at what he does with affordable prices. Think he done mine for a few hundred when I had been quoted 900 for the same thing by other people?!?!?
  4. Telling us what area you live in might help. There's no point me telling you that there's an absolutely ginormous beech tree in London if you live in Scotland!!!
  5. Ooooooo, fight, fight, fight:lol:
  6. use paint to seal the ends? Think that's what a green wood worker told me once. Look up 'Thehungrysquirrel' on here if you get no joy. He's good with things like this.
  7. For PAYE, it depends what's in your contract. In our contract it states that during the winter if we can't work due to snow then we don't get paid. It's crap but we signed the contract. It's a relatively small firm with limited funds. If the company is not earning how can we expect him to pay us for not doing anything?
  8. Sheesh, that's expensive!!! Wouldn't mind having a read of it though! I wonder how people come to put such values on things like this? I would assume it's a very good book and that there aren't many around?
  9. Bingo
  10. Both, with the right setup. If you use a rope grab I don't think you'll be able to climb on it. By using a friction hitch with a pulley underneath you can do both.
  11. I climb with a 5m lanyard set up with a VT and use it on my main bridge, especially when installing. Once at my TIP I change it to my side d's for work positioning. Also change it back to my main bridge for difficult work positions. Really versatile. I was taught never to hang from my side d's because, as mentioned before, you're side loading them with the potential to tear. They should only have lateral loading with your feet firmly placed. Buuutttt, I have hung from them before haha
  12. [ame] [/ame] My friend is in the marines and he can do this. They use it when a helicopter is rescuing them from water for example
  13. So you need to back up the back up?! I normally use a fishermans back up the line, which I actually thought was the Yosemite tie off
  14. What's that blue thing on your back? A Camelbak?
  15. Books are always good to help with a basic knowledge of trees etc. I've found most of my knowledge has come from a book. If you have your own climbing kit you could always go recreational climbing to help you become a more proficient climber. On the job experience always counts for more but there are small things you can do to hone your skills. Also, if you've got nothing else on on a Saturday you could always offer up a days free labour to someone? Not ideal, but if you prove yourself it could potentially lead to a job
  16. Erm, can I have a job please? I got all my tickets
  17. Agree with the airstreams being cold, nonetheless have quite enjoyed wearing them. I have now just purchased the arbortec scafell xer.. On day one I wanted to cry, they felt like vices. After loosening the laces and wearing them even to the shops just to break them in, I am now very happy. They are awesome. Honestly. Pricey but awesome... So far! Only had them a week so who knows what the future holds!
  18. Ok cheers guys, think I'll go with the 661
  19. I'm looking to get an MS 661 and whilst looking on the interweb I noticed that the MS 880 with the same bar (30") is only £150 more. It's not often that I do massive trees and doubt I'd ever have the need to whack a 4ft bar on it, but when spending this much money an extra 150 isn't much. But if I did have it I would then future proof myself in case something like that did come up. I need to go into a shop and compare the 2 as I will have to take into consideration weight etc. It won't be an everyday saw (far from it) but what would you do in this situation? Ps. Not interested in other brands equivalent.
  20. Happy with that!! Wouldn't mind working for you around Xmas bonus time
  21. This is potentially lost in translation, but this is some crappy advice if you ask me. Just save 50 large mate you can do it:confused1: Don't forget though, never accept free food pal. You're better off dead:confused1: Get yourself a £400 a week job mate, but stay on the streets in the cold because I don't think they ask for a fixed abode when making payments or getting a bank account or paying tax etc etc:confused1: If you have quals in tree care cs30/31/38/39 etc perhaps let people know this with a sign or something whilst you're out selling the big issue. "Qualified tree surgeon looking for work" something along those lines maybe? You must have all sorts of people passing you in the street; it's bound to catch someone's eye.
  22. When you say 'grossed' 3k, do you mean profit? If so, that's sweet mate! How long did it take?
  23. Starscream

    Hovermower

If they reckon it reduces window breakages and performs as good as a strimmer, I'm in!
  24. Starscream

    Hovermower

I wonder if it works with strimmer cord?
  25. I have a full rigging kit, because, well, just in case. I also sub out to a couple of gardening company's who quite frankly haven't got a clue but pay well!!
