  1. i have been experimenting with wood ash from my fire and spraying weed with selective weed killer it seems to work well on making themoss disappear ,not kill but making it inhospitable for it to grow as from what i have read moss likes acid soil and wood ash has some lime in it which is alkaline coupled with ash being a natural fertiliser i seem to be getting good natural results over time , the grass is not really dark green and doesn't grow too fast but i suppose its depends on what the customer wants .......... it's usually short term gain and long term loss rather than being patient and changing conditions that are causing the issue !
  2. where are you Shillo because £350 would be a bargin for that splitter from what I've seen around manchester
  3. That's not news ! that's normal practice from any scaffolder that ive seen ! bet you he had a spliff in his hand as well
  4. lol i was being serious ! I have cut myself with a silky a couple of times nothing anywhere near as serious as you and i find if a concentrate on what i'm doing it doesn't happen ! not had an issue with one for a good number of year now but i know as soon as i get complacent because it's just a hand saw i'll get another one as to driving yeap and chainsaw use yeap concentrating what i'm doing ! that doesn't mean something can never happen but that concentrating on safe use limits the issues . we will all be guilt from time to time of not concentrating properly that's where a seat belt and chainsaw pants can give us a get out of jail card but will never replace, in my book concentrating on what your doing . I apologise for the way my post came across but as you can see many others agreed with my post
  5. the best protection is concentration
  6. I have the first knuckle of my middle finger on my right hand missing did it 15 years ago at the time i was a self employed gardener , and wasn't concentrating while mowing long grass so i had the box off ,it clogged up so i released brake chain (as it was a honda ) but hadn't realised that the cable was faulty and the blades where still going it took the top off my finger which after one lot of surgery got a massive infection and it had to come off ! the 2 biggest problems i found with recovery was not would i be able to hold and use equipment but weather i could stand the vibrations on a daily basis and if i could continue to work out side as my circulation in my whole hand was just awful ! Both were difficult to deal with but over time these issues got better the vibrations issues went well within a year and year by year my circulation is no longer a problem ,it's still not as good as it was but it is easily managed by have lots of thermal gloves so when one gets wet and cold you can swap them for a dry pair
  7. oak if i had enough room to be 2 years ahead for seasoning but only just have enough room for 1 year love the heat and how long well season oak burns but i also like the instant heat of conifer yes it doesn't last long but it has some good heat ! that you then can add some hard wood too
  8. you wear your chainsaw boots to do fencing? think you should buy a normal safety boot for that then your chainsaw boots might last a bit longer
  9. that's true but there are a lot of guys and girls on here who don't do trees full time or are only looking at doing small to medium jobs and these machines make it possible to have a chipper and compete with full time tree gangs! I did which for me is a big job 2 50ft 1 40 ft and 7 other 20-30 conifers fells and and a 30ft maple and other shrubs we had to climb the bigger 3 we always knew the trees would be down but never thought we would have a chance to finish the chipping with the machine i own (titan beaver ) to my shock and Amazement ! the chipping was finished about an hour after we finished the fells really thought we would be coming back to chip a massive pile the next day ! the machine worked all day and and i spent £15 in fuel for it
  10. that's slow .... my titan beaver is so much faster than that!
  11. if you can get that then great ! there are too many variable is it a just putting a fence up? or do you have to remove a old one ? are you removing an old hedge ? if it is just putting up fencing for 1 -3 panels that price is fine but trying that price out at 10- 20 panels will be pretty expensive for say wane lap fencing when materials cost 60-70 quid per panel ( depending on choice of panel)charging £1500 for 10 panels that I would do in a day on my own would mean i took £ 800 quid home for a days work is a bit steep but most of the time you don't just put the fence up ! too many variables
  12. Can artificial grass be repaired? seems it can be repaired
  13. I too made one from scrap wood ! one of the best and cheapest things with a great benefit !
  14. that's an accident waiting to happen !!! [ame= ] [/ame]much safer to use one of these ! stack all you small stuff on it first then put a larger one on top so it doesn't bounce the saw about once you start cutting or you can put a couple of bungee straps to hold it tight together !
  15. it might be my eyes but it looks like he's not even tied in
  16. a friend of mine put a notice on a tree in a property he owns and the 6 weeks ended on the 22nd of April but in the notice he said it was an Oak but from the pictures i have seen it's an ash !(but it is the only tree in the property I believe ) does this make the 211 notice void and he has to put in another one in or is it just a case of phoning LPA
  17. I might put the panels back in if they had blown out and do small repairs but no way would I be replacing panels that a storm had blown out !
  18. 1 day guarantee that the fence won't fall over or if something has happened that is obviously my fault . which is rare a fencing company that used to supply to me gave no guarantee for supply or fit I don't see why I would give one when they do not !
  19. your job and if it's as bad as you say YOU will lose work based on that standard ! so your choice is lose work ( and maybe not get paid for this job) or rip it up tell him it's your job and to do it your way
  20. it's not really important what knot it was its the fact he didn't test his system before releasing his other life line I have tied knots incorrectly it was a blakes hitch (which i believe when you do it wrong it's called a suicide knot) but I tested it first and guess what it didn't hold me and i never fell because i hadn't released my other life line ................ Test your life line that's what that video teaches me
  21. is it me or is that an awful lot of saw dust for a small tree?
  22. one of my favorite plants ! easy to grow and beautiful when it flowers ! especially when the flowers don't get beaten to death by the rain !
