  8. I have the same stove and I live in a smokeless zone also ! looks like I could be in for it as well. I would get all info you need from defra knowing what the law states and the fact your stove is approved https://smokecontrol.defra.gov.uk/appliances.php?country=england#F it's listed here on the defra website and then phone them to ask them what the problem is ? then inform them that their talking crap!
  9. Ok so I think I now need to clarify my comments some may feel i'm wrong so be it! No i do not go round killing animals I have foxes living in my wood shed (last years young 3 of them )they seem to love the fact the sun beats down through a clear corrugated plastic roof . I feed the birds, I keep pets , I don't wish to destroy nature but i draw the line with pigeons they are vermin ! I would grind a stump if i found a rat whole near a stump I view them the same I do not go shooting i have never been cruel to animals and as for calling me a retard .......Well I would of thought the moderators should moderate a little more
  10. knock it down with the pigeons in it
  11. this plus the fact that every lawn I have come across is over fertilized and near impossible to cut well with one cut
  12. when you have limited space you have to stack otherwise it most off the wood is not in the shed
  13. this actually i'm jealous as I wished I had customers who would allow me to fanny about for a few hours over the hedges i do and still pay my hourly rate !
  14. totally agree with this post ( i also hate trying to chip holly with current chipper looking at replacing it ) OP's job for me is a £300 -£350 as would be a similar price for the clearance both jobs look like a morning work / 1-2 oclock finish at most for 2 people £50 to throw the waste logs go home or to who ever wants them you can always get rid of them for nothing laborer gets £100 you take £200 a good days wage never mind a half a days work
  15. British standard is combustible materials to be 4 inches away my rack is maybe 5 and dries them fine no need to place them on top or against the fire
  16. just a side issue but tying a saw by it's middle handle it could increase the chance of a possible injury, as the saw, if dropped could pivot and swing the bar back upwards towards your legs and as back handle saws generally have longer bars and more powerful engines an accident is more likely cut through your boot or pants . or is my thinking all wrong
  17. stack as much next to the fire as possible i currently have a rack that keeps 2-3 days worth when burning all day, the logs nearest the fire dry very well you can see this by all the extra cracking that happens on the faces of them but as to what % less water is in the log i don't know but i would be surprised if it got any more than 5 % before they where thrown in the fire
  18. i would like the link also
  19. ok first of all I need a I.D as I got into this industry off my own back and my tree I.D is just not that good, no cones unfortunately to help and a dodgy google maps photo the tree owners would like the tree to go to some use other than just firewood so I was wondering if anyone in the south manchester area is interested in taking the stick away ? they don't want anything for it ......well it's not walnut just so it goes to a good home and of cause doesn't cost them ! otherwise I think it might go to firewood ! I haven't got a date to fell this yet, as to access I would think it would have to go over the fence in the google image https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.3949492,-2.3424528,3a,90y,55.71h,101.98t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1syc1GN_RyfJ41D1xDWDIfHQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656 the tree is the one centre of the image
  20. lol are fans pretty?....................or are they about efficiency?
  21. thought i would post this for people as it's cheap as chips with a 3 year warranty and it's in today .or so says Aldi thought people who haven't tried their stoves with a fan might want to give it a go https://www.aldi.co.uk/stove-fan/p/072454062316400
  22. long grass is unlikely to dry out this time of year the dew is heavy and and the sun just doesn't dry it out enough before the next dew or even worse a day of rain ! The only chance of dry grass is (or drier grass) if it is cut short and left to dry out
  23. if this is new turf only 2 months old make sure the turf has knitted properly as putting a mower on it could lift the corners ! I personally would just strim and rake up then come back a week or 2 later to cut with mower in the hope that it is dryer and will give a better cut but i wouldn't cut it short as it's dead easy to scalp new turf
  24. i dealt with a oak limb that had fall about a month ago with no sign of rot in it and had no previous damage.(it's in a field and and have worked on tree before ) sorry no pictures I made the assumption that because the limb had more water in it than in winter and the I thought in my area (manchester ) that there had been quite a number of very strong windy days (which i thought was unusual )through the summer that this was the reason for the failure or I could be talking out of my bum hole again ! also had in same field large willow limb fail but that is hung up so don't know the state of that (customer wanted it leaving for now as it's of no danger to anyone currently just so you know why that is the case)
  25. Fiskars x27 a shockingly good axe my firewood is mainly arb waste (my own although i don't view it as waste ) so loads of knotty stuff including seasoned oak made my life a hell of alot easier logging last year for this winter
