  1. Well surely brexit has shown what a total f. up the current system is.
  2. Something I feel should have been applied to the brexit vots as well as indyref2 is that to change things there should be a 55%+ majority. Or even 60%. Being 50% means the losing side can justifiably block progress as they are representing the near 50% who didn't support it.
  3. I looked at the accident data. Half the accident were due to knots not being tied right, a bing off the end of the rope, etc mistakes basically. 2 ropes can't teach you to tie knots right. It's a done deal anyway so just gonna have to suck it up and find a way to make it work.
  4. The b.s. that is brexit will cause Scottish independence. Scotland did not vote for brexit, it has highlighted the divisions with the UK, and tory politics which arent exactly popular up here. Its a foreseeable mess the tories have made, and been made the most of by the snp.
  5. I have a variety of ways of dealing with logs from jobs, sell some, swap some, etc. If you are happy to take softwood then you should be able to find someone who can supply you. If you are only after hardwood cut up to firewood size then don't expect that for free.
  6. Find out the email of the manager and email direct with your complaint, and ask that some refund could be made to make up for the inconvenience.
  7. I met Liam from 'tree works oban' on a course, was a sound guy and might well be happy for you to drag brash and feed a chipper to see if you like the job.
  8. I've had mine 2.5yrs. Still going strong. Only issue I found was chip building up on the left side of the black plastic roller cover. I cut out a bit of plastic from the bottom of it, which help it clear. You can also poke a stick up to clear chip too.
  9. Not done an oil change on my machine, is probably (over)due. Yeah I'll probably do as mick says and clear up the mess. jan.
  10. I too have a makita battery top handle, it's nice for little reductions etc but not an all day saw. The echo toppers gets good reviews on here.
  11. I attach my snap hook with a maillon to my flip line. Maillon cost about a fiver. J.
  12. I think you need proper legal advice on this.
  13. Had mine 2.5yrs. Still very happy with it. Fills my transit no problem. I've not done anything to the tow hitch, it came with a little brass barrel lock that can lock it in the tow bar. I think tw are offering a 5yr warranty at present which would be very attractive. All the best with it, j.
  14. Hi Central, I've sent you a pm about a trainer who could do your tickets.
  15. Hi, ring round some local companies and offer to drag brash for a few days. If you like the work then get your basic chainsaw felling ticket. There's a fair bit of forestry work in Stirlingshire, so might be worth looking into even if you decide to rule it out. All the best. Jan.

    Drink

2 livers is news to me. You weren't thinking of kidneys were you?
  17. Looks like heterobasidium annosum, conifers are the main host.
  18. OK, here's my 2 penneth worth. 1. Is there any legal route that we can challenge the HSE decision, ie an appeal process? 2. If we as an industry can provide evidence that this is not suitable for our type of work then we can present that in contrast. Both of these aspects I feel the AA would be in the best place to investigate. It may be that Arborists need to crowdfund option 2. Has the AA taken legal advice on the HSE decision? I will try asking someone (Lawyer) who specialises in this area for some advice. jan.
  19. Stihl combi with extension pole makes for awesome reach (over 3m). It is a pig to handle but for wide or tall hedges with a decent tripod ladder you can cut really wide/tall stuff. Without extension it is about 2m and quite manageable. J.
  20. The above is correct about 6wks notice, but might be a good idea to contact the TO and check. I find being on good professional terms with the TO's and not a 'chancer' helps when you occasionally need their help. Just my way of working. jan.
  21. I got PI insurance with a basic inspection ticket. Insurers seem happy to provide cover on that basis. I sleep much better now I got pti!
  22. AA do them regularly, check their website. If you do basic you'll end up needing pti soon enough. Why not go for pti, you should find it straightforward, if you go with a good trainer. I put off doing it til this year but passed no problem. Jan.
  23. Hi Steve, That's a great set of images showing how good the Picus is. Great being able to compare the two.
  24. Mine has done similar, as have several other near me (fife, Scotland). I think it is due to the unusual weather we've had, wet but with occasional hot sunshine. J.
  25. I use a toughbook, with an excel document to record the survey info. I got shown how to do it by chris Simpson of informed tree services. He does training up here in Scotland. AA are running one of his sessions in Sept in Stirling.
