  1. Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will have a look into 2wd rodeos and vw vans and the nissan. A double cab tipper is probably a bit much for me at present, not sure how practical it would be for my set up, either work or family car.
  2. Ian -not thought of asking them to store it, unfortunately the yard is 15 mile away from my house, but it might work in the interim. I will ask the boss.
  3. Willtimberlake - thanks but it isa bit older than I am looking for. Dorset is also nearly a 1000mile round trip to have a look at it!
  4. OK, not a make I a familiar with but will check them out. Thanks.
  5. Hi, I need a more appropriate set up to do bigger jobs. Currently I subbie as a climber 3-4 days p/w and do my own jobs (a mixture of tree work and general gardening) 1-2 days. So far I have been managing fitting 2 tonne bags in the family car! I am looking to hire a chipper sometimes. The vehicle needs to be the main family car also. Price range of 5-10k. Options I am considering: One option is getting a towbar, but I have nowhere to store a trailer! or buy a 7 seat mpv with towbar and rent trailer storage. Buy a 4wd double cab and make greedy boards, but I don't really need 4wd and they are pricey to run. Any other suggestions or recommendations welcome! jfc.
  6. Hi, I too just got diagnosed with CTS, had the nerve tests and got an appt in a mont to see an orthopaedic consultant to see what he thinks. As well as the numbness/pins and needles in the 4 fingers my hands feel really stiff and achey, especially when I get up in the morning. It feels like my finger joints need oiling! Do you get this too? You can also try wrist splints at night, which apparently help about 40%. Not worked for me but may help you. All the best with it.
  7. Gary, all the best with your research. I worked in market research 20 yrs ago and if I remember correctly we expected about a 10% return rate for mail questionnaires. Online may get better returns. -other advice try to make it as short as you can, if possible one that can be filled in in 5 mins. -prizes to encourage participation. Maybe one of the retailers might give you a voucher to spend with them or something. All the best.
  8. I had a very interesting reply from my life insurance company (Legal and General), my premiums won't change, as the policy was taken out in my previous occupation, so long as I pay my premiums the policy continues as previously. I was a bit surprised by this as I thought I would now need to pay a lot higher premiums so I rang L+G and it was confirmed. Apparently if you are accepted for a policy if you change occupation at a later date then you are not penalised(i.e. have to pay higher premiums) for this.
  9. Cheers billy, I am older (45) but not looking for as much cover so may even out. I guess my current provider will be in touch pretty sharpish when they see the change of job. I will have some idea of whether to stay with them or change provider if they quote me something silly.
  10.:biggrin:Richie, That could almost be the definition of over-sharing!!
  11. Thanks. It would be much easier if I got my kicks from tiddly winks and watching telly!
  12. No i've not done any mountaineering for a while, but off piste skiing won't help!
  13. Richie, I will look at CIC cover, but when we got quotes before (10yrs ago) it was way too expensive (because I did winter mountaineering), I will ask for a quote but I think it might be too much.
  14. Thanks pete, if L+G ae too high or rwfuse me I will try them.
  15. Thanks Stephan, that gives me some idea of cost.
  16. Hi, Anyone got any advice re getting life insurance cover as a climber? I have just passed my aerial qualifications and started work as a climber, I have life insurance ongoing based on my previous career (not in arb) and have just informed Legal and General of my new career, and awaiting their response. From what I have read some companies won't cover you at all, others have limitations on what they cover. What sort of monthly premiums are people paying? I was paying £15 pcm. Are there any companies that are easier to deal with? Thanks, Jan.

  18. Just to add I passed my tests on Friday, thanks for the advice beforehand. I felt I was very well prepared for it. Cheers.
  19. Thanks charlie, I might well try to arrange that, just gotta work it in with family life! jan.
  20. Russ, Thanks for that tip. Think I have a Sigg bottle kicking around my gear cupboard. I might well be filling it with hot water too as it might be a bit chilly in mid-feb up here in the North east of Scotland.
  21. Thanks Coletti, I will practice my knots as some mentioned I have never used. The theory I should get from the NPTC guides someone else linked to this thread. I'm looking forward to the training, but not the assessment! The advice from all this has been very helpful as I am doing this off my own back and don't have anyone local to ask about all this.
  22. :thumbup:Thanks Richie and Jack. if I can find an excuse to come past pitlochry I'll give you a shout.
  23. Craig, Thanks for the NPTC docs. I will dig out a bit of rope for practising some knots.
