  1. Well put Huck. I'm 50 in a few weeks. I climb 3 or 4 times a week. Did my rigging course earlier this year and am finding that it really helps to conserve energy. The other climber in our team is younger, and faster but has a different style and approach. We are finding that our different styles and approaches to climbing and working are complementing each other and really paying off. For example he can process a large crown reduction much quicker than me yet I took on a monkey puzzle dismantle that he was struggling with. As a 1st and 2nd climber combo we are learning to work smarter, not harder thereby ensuring that we are preserving ourselves and working to our respective strengths. Providing my health and fitness don't evaporate over night I reckon I've got 10 years (enjoyable, productive) climbing in the tank.
  2. Great post Adam... Running your own show is not for the feint hearted, for sure.

Another point to consider is that climbing kit (PPE) items should have a CE mark (certificate of conformity)
  4. Morning Mike. I've lived in Birmingham for 3 and a half years since I got married. I was in Derby before then but used to travel into BHAM a couple of times a week. I remember some of the building being half built and then just left. We've been to the miller and carter in Shirley, must try the one in Sutton Coldfield. Nice one mate.
  5. Hi Mike , hope you are well. Someone told me the other day that Birmingham is the second greenest city in Europe.... Don't know if that is correct but it keeps us busy.
  6. Aye... Large lime 80ft, maiden pollard to about 30ft. Didn't post any pics cos I didn't think it was a nice thing to do to a tree. Pays the bills and the customer was happy though. Enjoyed rigging the pieces down
  7. Alice Springs.... Is that where the original Mad Max films were shot?

    Isuzu Grafter

This is a really interesting thread. As I've mentioned on other threads the constant frustration with transits/LDV etc.. Getting more and more flimsy with each new upgrade. (I hate to think what the new transits will perform/look like when they are over 5 yrs old). We not long ago bought a single cab transit 02 with ally high sides and 5t springs. It's a reasonable truck but at 90ps it's gutless. We also run a mog and a fiat cargo for quotes etc... When the time comes to renew the tranny we will definitely be looking at the Isuzu.
  15. We got done a few years ago. The person that did it took every working machine we had and left every tool that wasn't working..... Two weeks previously a guy working with us quit suddenly, abandoning the team he was meant to be leading and nipping off with the job takings. It didn't take a detective to work out who was responsible. The sad thing about it is that he would of sold the machines for next to nothing to buy drugs. Last I heard the guy in question was in a really bad way, it doesn't bring me any satisfaction to know that. I hate to admit it but our security measures in those days were pretty slack and we were taught a lesson. We've come a long way since then.
  16. Summer months are definitely the busiest for us. 3-4 days of quotes a week with 2 teams out 6 days a week means we are very busy and growing. Having said that we find we are steady through the winter. Domestic for us too.
  17. Shabby chic.... All the rage now. Nice
  18. It was Bosworth Hall Hotel in Market Bosworth only 30 mins from our house so we didn't have to sit in bank holiday traffic either. Lynne got it special offer on Groupon
  19. Hi Jon, Lynne treated me to a couple of nights at a country hotel. Spoilt rotten I am..
  20. If you look at my original post I said 5 years from first use. (Generally I think this is what most manufacturers state. including harnesses) We WERE told on our exam that passing an item beyond it's recommended date would result in a safety critical error. Resulting in a fail. The case in point was a harness . I wasn't asking questions to distract. If I am wrong I will accept it. Getting back to the OP, I wouldn't pass a slipping spiderjack and wouldn't pass a rope with no paperwork/record of first use/unique id mark. I wasn't trying to argue with you.
  21. Yes I am aware of the provision. I am acquainted with the author of the latest ICOP. Extending the lifespan of an item beyond the manufacturers recommendation is not something I would enter into lightly. Eg..A climbing line still in its pack un-opened ,stored in the dark etc.. Say a year beyond its end of use date.. So say I declared it fit for use and asked to TE it once a month. What would happen if it failed? Where would I stand from a legal point of view?
  22. If you sat your LOLER examiners assessment and declared an item of textile fit for use after it's 5 year date was up. you would fail the exam on the basis of having made a safety critical error. Likewise in a real life scenario if you did the same thing and the item failed in any way you would be at fault. Not a risk I would want to take, wether I was climbing with the rope myself or examining it for someone else.
  23. G'day, An occasional user (albeit a careful one) could make a climbing line last for 5years but LOLER (regs) say he would have to retire it then.
  24. Who are owned by Monsanto (more commonly known as the illuminati) Or is it kraft who make the lovely Sardinian cheese with the maggots in it...
  25. Last time I collected and ingested any fungi (apart from the stuff sold in supermarkets) I ended up in the slammer Psilocybin (dried) 1 month HMP Swansea 28 years ago. Wiser now (some may disagree)
