  1. Condolences to Martins loved ones and friends. Very sad.
  2. Our guys ship a 40' container from the Netherlands to the UK a few times a year. it costs £1k approx.
  3. Which is why the dual mass flywheel was invented. Stops you putting any real weight on the truck. They were only really designed to run unladen.
  4. Thanks mate.
  5. Proper truck. Not like the disposable plastic crap that gets churned out over here.
  6. Nice one Dave! Will the 0.7mm difference be an issue with my zz? In terms of grip and wear on the device? Thanks mate Ti
  7. Does anyone have any experience climbing on this with a zigzag Mk 2? Needed a new rope so one of the lads picked this up for me. I was on Yale Limelite 11.7mm Would like to hear people's experience on it good and bad. Thanks in advance.
  8. Flyers, word of mouth. Repeat customers. We also get quite a few people come up to us while we are working and ask us to give them a quote.
  9. Hi Jon, looking forward to meeting you there at long last! There's a few of our lot going on the Saturday. Possibly looking for a special deal on a Husky 395xp and some assorted bits: Stein RC rigging bollard and a whoopsie sling. Chains and PPE stuff etc... See you there, mate (Saturday) Timon
  10. No, it was in Selly oak. First ones we've done so a bit of a learning curve. Did some more in Derby today as well. Not the nicest trees to work on but good experience none the less.
  11. Same here...
  12. Here's a few pics of today's job dismantling a couple of pops. Our Justo did the big one and I climbed the "rotten pole" one after I had anchored in at about 80ft in the next tree. Was really glad I did cos once I had zipped most of it over the shed I discovered that the base of the stem had just an inch and a half of sound wood around it.. The middle was completely wet and rotten. Also featuring our lastest climber Gabe.. All of 5 years old!

Hi Sean , I don't have much in the way of words for you but my wife Lynne and I pray for your healing as often as God brings you to mind. (Usually before bedtime). You and your situation are lifted before the throne of grace in time of need. With love and much respect. Timon and Lynne
  14. First of all. Is it genuine?? Secondly, anyone working for that isn't going to be around for long. We come up against this sort of thing from time to time. When I quote jobs, I always warn people about going "cheap" it can end up being a lot more expensive in the long run. You hear some right horror stories...... If the price is too good to be true it's usually because it is.

  16. S'right Wouldn't swap my T540 for a 200T Did you send your double cross cut to spud along with your 357?
  17. We run an 02 tranny and a 25yr old mog. When I think of what the yanks run.., Eg. Big over engineered lumps that run forever. Verses what we get over here: tiny power plants with high pressure turbo set ups running at the very limit all the time. Everything is under-engineered these days. That is my point What ever happened to "solid" "robust"and "heavy duty" ??? The Russians win the Paris-Dakar every year now with Kamaz trucks. I wonder if they make a 3.5t truck?? I'd buy one!
  18. Sorry Mick, I really can't agree with you there. Modern 3.5t might drive better (more like cars) but the engines are getting smaller and smaller. Manufacturers are cutting costs wherever they can (delivering value to shareholders) at the expense of quality and durability. Try reversing a fully laden new transit tipper up a steepish driveway without smoking the clutch (just one example) Sorry for the derail of this thread
  19. It's exactly the same with trucks.. The later the model the worse they get. Look at the new transit. It looks like a Chinese copy of the last LDV. Plastic crap. Having said that I love my 540 and my 560
  20. Having done quotes for the last 8 years... Landscaping, fencing and trees for the last couple of years I've learned that it is much more an art than a science. There are so many variables at play. I know guys that price work according to set price bands...and are quite rigid in how they go about it. I tend to feel my way around a quote taking into account things like customers mood/disposition. Access Parking. Distance to drag. Neighbours garden any good to use as drop zone? Targets, obstacles etc.How affluent is the customer and are there any tell tale signs as to how they spend their money? Try and find as much info about them while doing the quote, this will intuitively tell me how to approach the final price and negotiations. Do I give one price regardless?? Definitely not. If someone is genuinely struggling with their budget I will try and help. If I think someone is well off and just being a chancer to get a cheap price then I'll tell them how it is When we look at our figures at the end of the year and analyse them it gives us a good idea of how we are doing.... Are we being efficient? Are we spending on kit unnecessarily? What areas can we improve on? Do we increase or decrease our prices to be more competitive or stop doing less profitable types of work? Etc.. Etc.. Like I said before, it's much more an art than a science. Hope this is helpful. Thanks
  21. I like to use tape slings for lowering. Helps me be a bit quicker. While the groundie is lowering I can be setting up the next piece. Cheap to buy and easy/quick to use.
  22. Probably not tend to be a bit lazy with it if I'm brutally honest.....
  23. Always in the area! I wouldn't put our 441 against anything bigger than a black and decker leccy saw. Your 357 sounds like a great saw... Once the warranty runs out on my 560 it's going to get spudded.
  24. Hi Joe, My 560 flies on an 18" even at the end of the day on stumps when the chain isn't so keen. I haven't tried a 20" but I recon it would cope reasonably well. I just think that a saw that weighs what a 441 does should handle a bigger bar and should be quicker. It's the same kind of thing when you compare the 346xp with the ms261: More cc, heavier saw but no real power increase. We've had our 346's for years and our 261's are quite new in comparison yet the 261's give us much more hassle and feel worn out already. The 346's are still going strong. Ti
