  1. For £130 I'd leave it. Or if you feel strongly enough go to Trading Standards with your story. You can be fairly certain that if this guy does have any "mishaps" the police will be looking at this thread.
  2. The gun ownership rates in Switzerland are high.... In places like Austria you don't need a licence to buy a shotgun... The availability of guns isn't really the deciding factor that determines if a country is violent or not.
  3. The relative murder rates of blacks versus whites in America is horrendous... blacks are 7 times more likely to murder than whites.... obviously things like poverty have something to do with it, but even so.... "In 2012, white males were 38 percent of the population and committed 4,582 murders. That same year, black males were just 6.6 percent of the population but committed a staggering 5,531 murders." 5 Devastating Facts About Black-on-Black Crime - Breitbart
  4. "Prevalence of Police-Related Killings •This suggests yearly averages of: ◦372 persons killed each year by police use of force •Compare this to these additional averages: ◦35,900 persons killed each year in the U.S. in motor vehicle accidents* ◦38,364 persons commit suicide in the U.S. each year** ◦373 persons are struck by lightning in the U.S. each year***" CRIM6100 Metropolitan Problems in Criminal Justice
  5. I think when Saddam invaded Kuwait it was morally right to push him out. However I think Gulf War round 2 was about America wildly lashing out after being attacked by Obama bin Laden.
  6. At the time of the war I was reluctantly in favour of it. I never thought the PM and various experts would lie through their teeth to justify the war. imho, Tony Blair should be tried for war crimes.
  7. when I was in the scouts we'd burn stuff like that on bonfires there must be a local scout camp that would take some of it off your hands?
  8. I thought the law was that fly tipping within 10m of a public road was cleared by council. Anything further away was responsibility of landowner.
  9. bits get blown off trees all the time. I cant see some drill holes doing any great damage to a tree. I can't see any council/ TPO officer doing anything about this.

I've seen 'dozers fitted with satellite systems so they can grade earthworks without any traditional setting out. it beats messing about with a traveller in the pissing rain.
  11. Oil (and heating oil) is priced in dollars... With the pound going down in value it means heating oil will cost more.... Should be a better winter for you log boys...
  12. Why do you think money will be tight?
  13. Surely a weak pound means that home produced firewood will become cheaper relative to imported firewood....
  14. Do any commercial foresters use the Clipex fences? I've often thought it a waste to erect fences, that will last 30 years, round a newly planted wood. After 10 years a tree is fairly resistant to sheep/ deer. How does the Clipex fence compare in price to normal fencing?
  15. Perhaps speak to the garage? If the petrol tanks are outside the drop zone I don't see any real hazards. Is the area open to traffic? If it is I don't see logs being heavier than a 40 tonne artic.
  16. Did you make the spoons in your photograph? Why not try to sell them?
  17. There does seem to be a recurring theme that Muslims born in the West decide to go out and kill fellow Westerners... If preventing migration now means there is less terrorism in twenty or thirty years time it has to be a good thing. I watched the news this morning and the presenter was saying that "the Orlando shooting has nothing to do with Islam and the shooter was mentally ill". The reason Trump is doing well is that he at least acknowledges the issues concerning terrorism.
  18. After the recent shooting in America I think Trump will become the next President... You look at conventional politicians and they come out with the "religion of peace" and "nothing to do with Islam". Trump says many migrants hate America and shouldn't be let in to America. I personally prefer Trump's stance.
  19. The amount of material a JCB can move in a day is unreal... I don't see rutted paths as a huge problem to overcome. Simple get a JCB (or similar) to break up the ruts and shape the path so that water flows off. Plenty guys here want rid of wood chip as well. I reckon paths of woodchip would be OK for pedestrians.
  20. Does it not depend on the pallet truck? I'd imagine even on a glass smooth floor moving 800kg would be a lot of effort.... I'm sure there are electric powered pallet trucks that could cope with some bumps.
  21. Have you looked at your title deeds? Is there anything preventing you planting trees along your boundary? If there is nothing on your deeds I would write a letter saying "if these trees bother you, you can cut them down at your own expense". I'd also be looking to see if there is an ombudsman for NR.
  22. If you removed that tree (roots and all) you'd leave a right mess in their garden. The householder would need £1,000 to put it right....
  23. So what is the landowner saying about all of this? Unless he's an absolute kn0b he should pay the person that cut the trees down.
  24. I think the main thing that drives forestry investment is that rich people buy it to avoid their estate paying inheritance tax..... This means the returns aren't particulary good... I remember circa 20 years ago a neighbour harvesting trees and he said the money he got would just cover the cost of replanting. Having said that my dad bought some forestry in 1998 then in 2010 he sold some standing timber for twice what he bought it for (I think he got lucky with exchange rate movements and the start of biomass). Sitka Spruce produces circa 15 cubic metres per hectare per year (yield class). At circa 45 years it's at the optimum diameter (too old/ wide and the value goes down). The top of tree goes for fencing/ chip/ pallets. The bottom of the tree goes for saw logs. From memory the landowner might get circa £3 a m3 for the small diameter stuff to £12 per m3 for sawlogs. So after 45 years a hectare of Sitka will be worth circa £7000 per hectare (this will obvioulsy vary depending on timber quality and distance to sawmills).
  25. The reality is that if you are a small employer there is a risk in employing a woman of child bearing age... Not many employers want to employ someone, train them up, then see them leave for a few months, pay them maternity leave for that time, get someone to cover the original employee etc. Realistically for a lot of small employers being forced to pay for maternity leave is the difference between making a profit and loss for that year.
