  1. You will never see a sweet chestnut with that bark.
  2. It's a prunus/cherry of some description.
  3. Need a location. Is it by any chance reclaimed ground?
  4. Looks like wych elm to me.
  5. The yellow halo says Septoria to me -- fungal. Common in Magnolias -- Liriodendron is a relative. Rake up and burn the fallen leaves.
  6. May probably best but the heather blooms now(ish). What is the visitor looking for -- castles, wildlife, scenery, whisky, culture, fishing, etc? You can drive, walk, kayak. Weather is everything. West coast more interesting than east. If you haven't been Edinburgh is a must. Do some islands. Ferry to Arran, walk up Goat Fell, then onward to Islay and Mull of Kintyre. Isle of Mull and Iona. Isle of Skye. Skye has wonderful restaurants -- Isle Ornsay and Three Chimneys. Take a drive from Tarbert through Lorne to Oban. Be sure to visit Crinan. Take a seaplane ride from Loch Lomond. etc. etc.
  7. Philadelphus for sure. We've had to reduce some seriously overgrown specimens recently. Absolute nightmare. Stacks of thin, whippy growth all over the place and about as combustible as water.
  8. Bout four fingers wide I'd say
  9. Sam Allardyce, "Entrapment won." TRANSLATION: "Bguger. I got found out." (What a prat.)

    Tidal.

Generation is not limited to to the top and/or bottom of the tide. Apart from the switch to ebb and flow the tide is running most of the time. Some tidal systems generate for around 20 hours per day. As above, main problems are cost, corrosion and environmental impact. (The Rance Barrage in France has been running since 1966.)
  11. No, fair comment. You would have to be unlucky -- poor construction, susceptible soil type etc.
  12. I'm, with Ed. You're buying the house not the trees. Also, bear in mind that removal of the trees may cause problems rather than solving them -- ground collapsing around root voids etc.
  13. If you ask the question "would you bother?" that implies you don't mind if you get the job or not. So just quote it like any other job. If the prospect turns out to be an @rse then move on.
  14. Depends on the area and how dense/lush the growth is. At 9" a lot of collecting mowers will struggle, If the area's not too great strim then mow. If it's extensive then hire/borrow a wheeled string trimmer then mow. Obviously the drier the better so fingers crossed at this time of year.
  15. Great story. Look after the good guys and look after yourself:thumbup:
  16. Is he employed, freelance, sub-contract? The point about any contract is that it's agreed in advance. What's proposed is tantamount to blackmail.
  17. No sh1t! 1. Ability 2. Training 3. Attention to detail 10. Lucky charms.
  18. This. No need to drill the barrow and no need for the putty. Great idea hoyc.
  19. Best thing I bought for my alpine was a set of pallet forks. Decent ones where you can adjust the spread. Set them wide, back up to the brash and rope it on if you need to. Granted not so handy if the brash is long and the track is narrow!
  20. 30 mins per allotment+materials unless as Goaty says you have to tackle tougher weeds. Might need glyphosate and/or SBK or even strim first. Also charge for mixing time.
  21. You didn't spell "breaking" wrong you spelt break-ins wrong I got the gist though.
