  1. Large bracket on a poplar I have been asked to fell next week Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  2. I have been asked to take down and re erect a post and rail fence. I looked at it a couple of weeks ago after the customer wasn't happy with fence that the previous contractor had put up. It was very poorly constructed. The posts were not in line, the half round posts had twisted as they had driven them in so that the flat side was not flush with the rail, rails not equal distance apart and rail ends not meeting in the middle of the post or even 3/4 the way across. Long story short it was crap. First contractor did a runner after he was confronted by the customer the next morning. Then sent an email to the customer trying to make excuses for the poor workmanship. The customer asked my opinion and I told her I wouldn't pay for it as it is and unless it was pulled up and rebuilt then no amount of trying to rectifying would make it right. The customer bought enough posts and rails for the whole job and the contractor just quoted her a price for labour and digger hire. But he bought and used different post and rails. She has asked me to pull it all up, put in two field gates, and re erect it. We are going to put all of the other contractors posts and rails to one side and use the timber that she bought. This evening she sent my partner (who is a friend) a copy of the invoice that he has sent. He wanted £960 for the hire of a mini digger and two man days labour. My question is are would photos and my email to her stating what is wrong, enough evidence to take to court if it does get that far. Many thanks Will Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  3. Crikey, how old are those pics? I had those stihl kneeflex and Willans harness about 15 years ago.
  4. Nice pictures David. I like to see bees in trees, it's their natural home
  5. Ah that's good to know
  6. We used to have a cundy Diesel peeler where I used to work. It was very old pretty sure it had decompression levers on the engine to start it
  7. Think pippin wants some toast!
  8. The H screw
  9. I wore hi flex for 5 years. Hot and heavy. Had these sip couple of weeks now and they are much cooler and lighter. Can't comment on durability tho
  10. Glad I was fencing today then! Got sunburnt on the backs of me legs so asked the customer if she had any sun cream. She went inside to get it and I was looking forward to a slippery rub, but then she just sprayed it on! Posh stuff
  11. Just cut them all down in the winter when they are bearing no fruit. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  12. I wore shorts cos I was fencing today, but first had to pick up some hedge cuttings from a job someone did for me yesterday. Got there and the bushes hadn't been cut low enough, needs must so I fired up the topper and took off another 12 inches so the bushes were below the bottom of the windows like I had told him. The cleaning company owner who I was working for turned up didn't bat an eyelid and was happy with the work we had done. If I'd had known I would have worn my jeans. Will I go to prison?
  13. It looks different. I'm with you joe I'm sticking to the old one
  14. A Devon shovel would be better. Much the same as a Devon shovel but years of hard use rounds the point off and sharpens the edge like a razor.
  15. Hi Oakley, the job is between Andover and Newbury in Hampshire.
  16. Good idea, or they could reverse over it as I have had to do in the past
  17. Thanks for the replies. Does anyone want to come and give me a price for a large tractor and flail topper to do the job?
  18. Think animals would just trample it down and then still have to top it after. Plus to much hassle for me and owners.
  19. That's the figure I had in mind plus a day to cut round the edge
  20. Yep that's what I thought.
  21. Hi all, As part of a job I have just looked at the client wants this paddock topped. He thinks it hasn't been cut for about 6 years. I have walked around it and although there are no young saplings growing in it and very few brambles the grass is tussocky and thick and feels lumpy underfoot. I'm guessing that a small tractor and topper is just going to struggle and make a mess. So what would be the best option? The reason for cutting it is that the property is now on the market and the owner wants to tidy it up. The field is about 2 acres and I would have to use a brush cutter fount the edges. Also what would be the approximate cost of getting it done. Thanks Will

    bad day

We've all done it. My mate even mixed up 5 litres of diesel and 2 stroke oil and put that in my husky and his Stihl. Husky didn't like it and would not start but his 461 ran a whole tank through it.
  23. The cure for it is to poke the tree back in and hope it doesn't go too brown before someone looks over what you have done
  24. I left a job today to go to my little boys first sports day. He won his first race and only came third in the bean bag race cos he's slipped from trying too hard but was catching the two infront as he went for the line. It was great to see him trying so hard. After I went back to work. I think I've got the balance right! Sorry bit off topic there! Good to have you back on the forum stefan, I like your can do attitude, but don't try and catch your grinder again- they're heavy old machines. Hope your leg gets better soon. Bet you didn't stay off work long eh?!
  25. Ok great thanks mark. Maybe a little too far away tho. I will speak to him and see if he is prepared to go that far
