  1. I have a Morbark WTC , its got a 200hp cummins engine which is the only bit that parts are available for in the UK. All the bearings and belts etc cant be matched with generic UK parts which is a bit of a pain. It ingested a rather large lump of steel a few years ago and is out of action until I find the time to overhaul it. Will post up pics when I drag it in. Bob
  2. Its a bit of a yolk really. Balfours threatened us with random drug tests when we were clearing motorway banks , they made it clear at induction they could turn up at any time and demand a test. Also on a quarry site where we were working there was a total lock in of all contractors in the event of an accident, basically every one on the site was to go to a muster point and wait for a doctor to turn up . Company policy was for everyone on site to be tested, again made quite clear on site induction. Bob
  3. Need to change the music to " living on a prayer" by Bon Jovi Bob
  4. I had to peel one of those off a tree once, he belonged to a guy that I was winching some trees in for. Sent him up to attach a bond while we were positioning the tractor and noticed he was clamped to the tree and not moving, had to get a ladder in the end and go up there to talk him down. Full of tickets and straight out of Merrist wood Bob
  5. Aside of climbers that powder their noses I suppose some dopy groundy`s come close to taking the biscuit , like the one we had a few years ago that was totally oblivious to everything going around him. Despite receiving very clear instruction decided to wander into the drop zone to test his helmet, it loosened his dentures a bit and woke him up.
  6. 357xp but ...............................................................................................................................................................................................................................Honeybros were being generous with the discount button the other day so I grabbed a couple of Stihl`s, had a quick play with one of them and I think Stihl have closed the gap in the medium saw range. Bob
  7. I carry over a dozen monkeys on my back all day so I dont need a workout . Bob
  8. Yes, he has been fitting my glass for over twenty years and this is the first bit he has broken. In fairness to him he just lifted it up and bedded it down on the gluewhen it went pop, nothing that he did because I was next to him when it went. When I contacted the supplier they said it was the nature of the beast, he said they have a warehouse full of the things and every now and then one will explode in the rack for no reason. They have heavily discounted another piece so its fingers crossed Bob
  9. The worst guy I have employed is a climber we will call x x is a nightmare, always skint, always late, always cadging smokes , food and drinks , tips the fuel from the saws into his car so he can get home, owes money everywhere , broken loads of shed roofs, conservatories, green houses, fences , dropped things on cars, not when he was on for me thank god but he poked a saw into his arm and had to rescued out of a tree by the fire brigade. He has convinced me he has changed and got his job back on several occasions but soon lapses back into his old ways.He will read this and laugh his head off . Bob
  10. A 10x6 trailer with greedyboards stacked out with hedge cuttings that have been stamped down by a lardy arsed groundy may just make 2 tons, that would be hard to overload. Bob
  11. Broke the door glass the other day, got a new one and the windscreen guy who was bonding it in broke that one too Bob
  12. Kicking off in Ireland and Cornwall https://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=5.35,49.45,1630/loc=-7.326,49.980
  13. @eggsarascal turned up at @Mick Dempsey `s place with his transit and drain jetter on the back looking for a job as a cutter, Mick said E6gs I need to see how capable you are so gave him the kit and showed him a big oak that needed to be felled , Mick told E6gs to fell the tree , cut and stack all the logs and chip the arisings . With that Mick went off for a few minutes, when he returned the tree was gone, the wood was all neatly stacked , all brush was chipped into a neat pile and E6gs was in his van with his feet on the dash having a nap. Kinell E6gs said Mick where did you learn to cut trees so quickly ? E6gs said I had a year in the Gobi forest, Mick said E6gs dont you mean the Gobi desert ? E6gs replied " is that what the call it now ?". I am off Bod
  14. Dont worry about it, you can only price at what you think is a reasonable rate irrespective of the customers or competitors perspective. Your client base will ultimately be built up over many years from customers that like you, your work and your prices.Really there is no such thing as undercutting ,its just other outfits happily working for less and for customers not prepared to pay more. They will never be your customers. Bob
  15. Here is one we cobbled together, vid shows it tearing willow out of a lake with a snatch block. Its a lot faster without the snatch block and more than capable of skidding without one. . It gets staked to the ground so its not swinging about on a strop like the small two stroke jobs. Bob
  16. Should have lamped him Kevin Brush up on your J turns
  17. Used the winch on the front Geoffrey with a snatch block and dragged it down the ditch about 40mts where it was shallower, then put a wide strap around a big Oak and it winched out ok. Bob
  18. Managed to back through a load of scrub and into a 4` deep ditch, spent the rest of the day getting it out .

  20. Moving on before David locks the playground The Brain drain, twas of concern a few years ago and is back in the spotlight. .I wondered if the combination of brexit and the new technologies alliances being forged with the Merikuns will worsen the situation. https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2017/jun/03/brexit-universities-academics-eu-rights Bob
