  1. An eight ton winch on its own will pull back almost any tree if you can get the rope high enough , the bigger problem is stopping the winch vehicle being dragged forward. I spent all afternoon yesterday pulling back big pine windblown hung up trees with the winch on the front of the Massey and thats only a six ton. That was enough to pull them over including the root plate. You would need one mother of an anchor to secure a true 16 ton of line pull. Bob
  2. Its embarrassingly ott Eggs, I will pm some pics. Bob
  3. Its my other half`s Eggs, its a ridiculous thing full of bits and fancy gizmos just to run kin horses about. Bob
  4. Whats a float Eggs? Bod
  5. My mate has had this fitted to his IW. I have seen them on Transits, great little gadgets
  6. Spotted this today on my rounds in Sonning. There must be more about
  7. Take Treequips advice and fuse the control lead, we suspect our transit burned out because of a trapped/damaged control lead behind the seat. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/arb-trucks/78261-overheating-transit.html Bob
  8. Exemptions http://www.genquip-groundhog.co.uk/downloads/Vehicles_Exempt_From_Operator_Licensing_Requirements.pdf A dual purpose vehicle ( 2), a truck with winch and hiab , perhaps interchangeable twistlock bodies may well be classed as a dual purpose vehicle. Advantage being not AG registered and allowed on the motorways. Perhaps Exemption 1 tractor has too many restrictions, see last paragraph. Bob
  9. Was the mendip translator not just a prehistoric dyslexic version of the Enigma machine Eggs ? Bod
  10. Eggs FFS sort this one out Bob
  11. More ride widening ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ The Aspenarb refuse sack, cant stand to see empty grease gun cartridges and food wrappers lying about
  12. Opening up some rides with the mulcher, done about 1500mts today about another 4000 to go . Mainly small Beech/ Birch regen and bramble to a width of 12mts "Yawn". Found this, some knob from the council stuck a ticket on it informing the owner to remove it or they will. Council tax payers money well used Old Will cant see much wrong with it
  13. Cant beat a Transit
  14. We have been using the soil screen mesh ,its super tough. 35mm squares with 6mm wire, still ok for lights and visibility. Needs very little support and welds easily. We have used weld mesh in the past but it falls apart. Brimonn - Specialists in Screening Media Bob
  15. I dont know, its all a far cry from the days I handed over £500 for a three day course for the class 1, it was just a couple of hours driving on test day and a few highway code questions, if you kept the truck off the pavement you passed . Its like any government legislation, top heavy and mind numbingly complicated. Look at all the cr@p you need to go through these days for a bike or a lorry license ,current system needs tidying up because its a its a mess. Bob
  16. [quote name=Arbtech Tree Services;1393275 I would have to debate (with respect) with aspenarb re sharpening as this was an initial concern for me' date=' the 880 runs .404 as opposed to the 3/8 on the 660 - so a .404 @ 48" is only 12 cutters more than a 3/8 @ 36" - no great shakes for me. Regards, Steve.[/quote] I wouldn`t mind if the bars were 48" Steve but one of the 880`s has a 72" bar the other a 60". Thats a long way round even if you do like sharpening. Bob
  17. One of the lads here took his class2 HGV and he still cant drive a transit with a big trailer, its crazy. You still need to do the trailer test unless you go for class1 HGV. Bob
  18. Like the day we had to section fell this Chestnut, the climber threw the towel in at 12 oclock with about 30` of it still to go ( midget climber, the saw was bigger than him) and left it to me to finish off, Bob in a tree is not a pretty sight . Over ten feet in diameter at the base so 880 territory . Bob
  19. Hate the sight of them, always blunt because no one can ever be @rsed to sharpen 12` plus of chain before they launch it back in the shed. Certainly know about it after a day or two of swinging around on the end of one.White finger special Bob
  20. My mate Terry just up the road is keeping the smiffery game alive this end eggs, he seems to find enough people prepared to spend north of £150K for one pair of gates Not much welding with his stuff:thumbup1: Terrence Clark, Art Metal Bob
  21. Another keyboard drenched in tea Village Bob
  22. We dont do logs but the guys we have been supplying timber to in Surrey are flat out and screaming for more timber. Bob
  23. It might be worth giving Land and Water a call , they have loads of kit specifically built for dredging ponds etc. Long Reach Excavators - UK's largest fleet | Land & Water Plant Hire Have a look at the amphibious range of kit Bob
  24. I believe we do Billy but for the sake of a minute a day and having a drivers cpc is it worth having a bun fight with uninformed Vosa or traffic plod at the side of the road ? Bob
  25. We still clear sites on occasions that were flattened in these storms, back then I was with AJ who had a Bray loading shovel and timber beak. The Mog , Bray and trailer were running 24/7 just dozing trees off the carriageways ( not much cutting went on ). As soon as it came back into the yard there were police waiting there to take it off to another . Bob
