Interesting one Mick, I have seven kids and rightly or wrongly never denied them mobile phones or access to the internet from an early age.For my sins I have had to witness many a tear amongst the kids from on line bitching or bullying , I dont doubt for one minute they have not done the same to others or worse. My brother on the other hand has not allowed it and I think its for the better, my nephews and nieces may not be very street savvy or worldly but have not had to endure all the aggravation and crap of being part of the social media circus. For me the computers on in the background while I tinker in the workshop or bimble around the house, I dont have any interest in television which is just as well because I am not allowed or brave enough to lay a finger on the tv`s remote. The Ipad is my favourite toy which allows me to sort emails , on line purchases ( Ebay ) and find suppliers while on the move, also the occasional sneaky peek on here We managed fine without all this before so I suppose its all unnecessary really. This is a new one on me as well , I read the HSE document and there are a few useful bits of info in there regarding tippers. One thing was the isolation switch for the electrics, I know at least one of our tippers has not got one so I had better get that done. As far as records go I suppose a simple homegrown dated tick box list would suffice and chuck it in with the vehicle maintenance records. Bob

I was watching the box of 357 bits but it went past my comfort zone I have a small pile of tired 357xp`s ( my favourite small saw by a long chalk ) I am going to attempt to resurrect a couple of them which brings me to the question of piston/barrel kits. There are a few different kits out there, some are 46mm and others 47mm bore. Are the 47mm ones a big bore kit with a power advantage or is there nothing in it ? Bob

A friend of mine that`s into his old Bedford J series trucks took an extended holiday in Auz, on his travels he happened across a Bedford in the middle of nowhere with absolutely no rust whatsoever, also no paint left on it at all where the sun/sand/wind had blasted it. Anyway he shipped it back to the UK last year and it cost him £1500 but he did load the truck up to the neck with loads of other gear as well, just a cruiser may well be less. Bob

You will either need to swap the motor for a bidirectional one or frig the pipe work and spool valve so there is no way of reversing what you have. There are no seals you can retro fit in a motor case that will take that kind of pressure. bidirectional motors usually have a seperate pipe to relieve the case of pressure as on the mulcher head below. Bob

Chipy, not all hydraulic motors can reverse , some of them put the case drain into the return internally which make them directional. Connecting the wrong way will pop seals straight out. Are you sure that you have the flow running round the motor the way intended? The only other thing I can think of is that the return line on the machine is under too much pressure. Easy enough to test, just connect the return to dump straight into the hydraulic tank. Bob

Crazy prices here for a truck thats not allowed in the LEZ`s that are being rolled out across the country. There are plenty up for grabs in Auz at reasonable money but it will cost £1500 to get it here + a bit of import tax unless you owned it out there for a while. Chris I would give IW a call and see if they could supply the seals if I was you , its not a big job to change them yourself. Most of the hydraulic shops will give you Rohypnol prior invoicing so take the KY with you if you do decide to let them repair it . Bob

Its a 6 cylinder machine , silky smooth and ultra reliable. Its never had anything done other than service work and the odd hose, it will load over the side of our bulker trailer and can dig into our stockpile of road planings as if it was top soil so its a handy bit of kit to have around . Downside is as said they are slower than the modern equivalent and if you spend a whole day in one you will know you have been in there. For occasional work I would say go for it. Bob
