  1. The talk of landrovers being scrapped bolsters the point of the percentage of those still in service which according to some figures is as high as 75%. They are never really scrapped in as much as put through a crusher , if you took your rusty old landrover to a scrap yard it would be put to one side and sold on for or stripped for spares. Virtually all of it other than the rusty chassis or bulkhead will get reused, rightly or wrongly even the identity will get reused ,especially if its a tax exempt one. There are thousands of landrovers and landrover specials out there build out of just spares. They will be around for ever Anyone out there still running a 1948 jap pickup?   5. That is expensive, we use Rye oils 10/40w semi synthetic from a 205 ltr barrel in absolutely everything . That works out at about £1.10 a liter depending who`s on the discount button in the office. Bob

  10. Its not, our lads are constantly breaking light boards and numberplates, to use the local motor factors or have to order them on line is a ballache. I can do these in minutes there and then . Plod i£ big on thi£ number plate malarkey around here ££££££££££. Bob

  12. Cheaper to make your own, they work out about £2 each and take no more than a minute to make. Its a godsend with the amount we break. I got the rollers, thousands of numbers, letters and tons of numberplate bolts off a garage closing down sale. The only thing I have needed to buy in recent years are the backing plates.   15. Those starters come in a few different ratings despite the same fitting , some are 1.2 kw and others 1.4kw plus. I think with the chippers and all the associated weight the starter is trying to turn its best to fit the higher kw starters, I have seen those spare wires used to operate dump valves on hydraulic equipment that would otherwise load up the engine while cranking.   17. I would be concerned as to why the core plugs popped out, with the rad needing repair as well I wondered if the thing was pressurising. It may be an idea to run it up with the cap off and see what sort of commotion is going on in the water system, the last thing you want to do is blow up your new rad. Bob
  18. Cant say I lost any sleep over his death, having read a few snippets about the man I am very surprised no one bumped him off. Bob
  19. Most experienced drivers would know whats on there weight wise within a mile of leaving site. I dont understand the volume purchases, far to many variables. Everything I sell has a weight ticket unless its rough old logwood and then the values are discussed over a brew, some head shaking and the sound of sucking through teeth. Bob

  21. You wont be running for very long in this game before you realise a 3.5 tonner is costing you more than biting the bullet and getting a proper truck.Some of the lads here run 3.5tonners alongside 4x4`s and trailers, thats a fair step up in capacity. Bob
  22. I would invest in the C+E if I were you, its a sound tax deductible investment which costs pale into insignificance when you look at the expense of all the other kit used in this game. If things ever go quiet its another job you can go off and do. Bob
