  1. Spot on. We stopped buying any secondhand equipment a while ago as i could never be sure if what we were buying was nicked or not! I know it can be an expensive option but think about it.. You get a new very reliable piece of kit with warranty..... And you know its yours...
  2. A bank account will only accept chqs in the name of that account.
  3. Bank fees are such a small overhead its not worth worrying about...
  4. Stick to what you know. We're a maintenance company and don'T touch trees. We did try a few bits and pieces but couldn't get the hang of it, had to hire a chipper, etc. In the end it was more effective to get a proper tree surgeon in and thats what we do now for all our trees, conifer hedges, etc. We concentrate on the maintenance. Everyone's a winner.
  5. Did he take the job?
  6. Don't know why driving isn't retested every 10 years anyway. almost seems daft you can drive from 17 to 70 and no one checks. A 10 yr retest might improve the standard of driving generally and mean that there'll be no need for a new law to catch middle lane drivers....... i'd be happy to do a retest... driving is a privilege not a right after all....
  7. Cabstar has a gtw of 7000kg. Make sure the others are the same for comparison.
  8. simple and large so it can be seen by motorists driving by... nothing worse than tiny little letters that can only be read standing next to the van..... less is more...!!!!
  9. :001_smile:ditto again to the above by adbat234.......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. We have fleet insurance with NFU. They insure all our van's, trailers and road going mowers on one policy... I wouldn't like to think of the headache of insuring them all separatly.....
  11. yep... i second that.. i bought the digital vernier calipers they had on sale a month or so back (think some others did as well off here), 8.99 brilliant bit of kit, even if you only use once or twice a year.
  12. Great story... and if they pulled over thieves who had your saw you'd be pleased..... best they pull over everyone and get it right 10% of the time than not at all..........
  13. I've got more food in the cupboard than i can eat, i get my breakfast at macdonalds far too often.... So if i can't take 5 minutes to send a few quid to cr to help then its a sad state of affairs.... If you don't like cr or charity generally then don't watch or give but certainly don't criticise.
  14. i agree. there's a lot to be said for a dealer purchase. may be a little more but you do get warranty, etc. or to put it another way, peace of mind.... my experience anyway...
  15. these you tube vids are always amusing.... especially like the chap holding the ramps with his plimsoles....? honestly.. was he going to catch the digger if it fell.....Doh..!
  16. The only way to get round the poor attitude of the private client, ie she doesn't care, is to go for the commercial sector, especially public money. My experience is that they won't let you work on site without seeing insurances/risk assesments/licences, etc. I'm sure there are exceptions but in my area that's what i've found......
  17. Plus 1.. Had mccolluch in the past.... Not good... May be better now but can't be sure.
  18. mad... do like the horse though.....
  19. Just shows how much was nicked....
  20. Hi, just got back from a weeks hols in west wales, snowdonia..... Stayed in Criccieth near Porthmadog.. As we drove around saw lots of tree guys working and lots of evidence of some large scale tree works, probably county council jobs... All good.... One thing that i did see though was a tracked timberwolf chipper with a chainsaw next to it. Other than that the layby was empty...? Was a bit surprised to see no one about especially with the problems of theft, etc.
  21. Mines an 09 plate and did the same thing with the fuel filter... great for towing (very steady and feels like it could tow a lot more) and doesn't jump out of 5th gear?
  22. Stihl oil in stihl machines..... What else.!
