  1. All this fuss over a waste carrier licence which is free for the lower risk and only £154 for the high risk. Just apply and then at least you're covered. Surely better to be safe than sorry... My advice is don't ever get on the wrong side of any Goverment Agency no matter who they are....
  2. Yep.... The lady killers or some more serious stuff The Dam Busters or A Town Like Alice... All good War Films....
  3. Unless you can prove liability to a firm or land owner you've little chance of a payout. Get the car to a repairer. It may not be too expensive? Keep posting up as it'll be interesting as to the liability side of things.
  4. Yep.... i agree. business finance is ok. its a means to an end to grow your business.... Completely different to personal loans/finance.
  5. Clever init.... Hats off to the pilot...!
  6. Thats a good point... been a while since i saw a h reg anything never mind a tranny...
  7. whats the £35 for.. is that per 250kg or per ton?
  8. There isn't really a fixed price. The quote is based on how busy you are, what you judge as a fair hourly rate and at the end of the day a quote of £X will seem fair to some customers and expensive to others...... However that said £40 should cover it... it looks like a simple job ,no ladders expect the small bit at the end.
  9. Grazon is really for Paddock grass. May be too strong from lawn grass. Have you considered a granular application. For instance Scotts Clean Run. Scotts Cleanrun Pro | Green-tech

    Mower

There are lots of different mowers available. Why not go to your local showroom and have a look. Near us we have at least 3 commercial firms that offer a whole range. Other than that look on ebay for a SHand unit.
  11. I sort of agree although in my experience its a false perception that the chap in the car, no hi'vis or PPE is cheaper than a professional outfit who'll complete the job safely in half the time for the same final cost. I tend to think the main annoyance is the money we as an industry shell out to meet all the regs/training that are set out to protect us, etc and anyone can buy a machine, use it with no safety or training whatsoever. Surely there needs to be better regs, ie you can't buy equipment without proving you can use it. i.e suitable training. Didn't i hear a statistic that one of the main A and E walk in's is the fella thats cut his finger off or similer while attempting DIY without safety protection.
  12. We see the amateurs all the time... strimming with no safety wear and no hi-vis on the road edge... guys on mowers with no ear defenders. Agreed they are probably cheaper and do the same quality job. But what happens when there is a problem. going through a utility line or worse causing an injury to a member of the public. Once the insurance company finds out the chap on the tools has no training (fair to assume as no PPE) the insurance will be void. Also not sure we can compare ourselves to the US as the regs are different.
  13. Yep.. i agree. although we had a similar job and hired a bloke and digger for similar money. that way we stood and watched him dig out the roots....
  14. Yes. You're right. The boss could be in hot water with the authorties although it is a practice used by some to avoid paying NIC.
  15. it's my understanding that if you work predominatly for one one firm then you should be PAYE and on the firms books. I suspect HMRC will take a dim view of any other arrangement as the firm won't be making employer NI contributions. Plus at least this way any breakages will be down to the firm. Any compnay that makes employees pay for breakages is a poor show indeed.
  16. We get youngsters apply to us with a degree in their list of qualifications? surely you're better going out to work and getting 3 years head start on all your mates from school rather than being 3 years behind with 50k of debt before you even start.....
  17. seems to a theme here of 'get on yer bike' as was said back in the 80's..!
  18. try not to use Autoglass... they are so expensive. Use an independent auto glass company if you can. They are just as good and a 1/3 of the price. And if you can get the car owner to get the window done on their insurance and just pay them for the excess. You'd be surprised how many don't mind. After all they just want their car fixed.....
  19. 50 quid is cheap..... Like already said at least its your truck and not a claim by someone you don't know......
  20. Yep, great strimmer. More powerful than its size would indicate....
  21. Yep... 2.5m unemployed and 2m of that are happy to be so.... No question.
  22. Anything that keeps the operater in the cab and not in harms way has got to be good. Big machine for big work... Great
  23. G18 is a good mower. does clog like others have said if grass is long and wet. A brush collection system on other types of mowers will collect better but don't be put off. does a really good job. deck is suspended rather than running on wheels. The wheels on the deck are anti scalp wheels only. deck is shaft drive so the machine is reliable just keep on top of the greasing, etc and it'll run and run. water cooled engine, runs for ever on a tank of juice....
