  1. reminds me of 87 and 91 over here clearing trees to open road for more to keep coming down these were big beech. in the end got pulled out as to dangerous. kept us busy for 3 wees clearing roads. but working in it is scary brough back memories of 87 hope to not see it again for a long time. lost a lot of trees
  2. etheopia, sudan its becoming a desert because the trees were felled for firewood etc now the rains do not come so they are starving if the developed countries want to help which they should then replanting of the forests is needed to stop the desert marching on. much cheaper in the long run than sending in food aid all the time. as for GM crops as other posts been going on for a long time its what they want to do now which is profit orientated and not for the good of mankind need new things like hydroponics.
  3. i have some regulars cuts i do fortnightly i charge £15 per hour. min one hour. and i can do them in less than a hour but customer is happy with work. and have contracts which they want a price per cut for the season. so is different as bigger areas. and can take 2 men 4 hours to cut and strim. but norm for small jobs as other posts £15 to £20 per hour with kit but like doing arb work the cost f the kit is not much difference good self propelled mower £1000 new ride on £3k plus all the hand tools. some of the mowers we have looked at in the ride on game 15k need a lot of grass to get money back. as its only a summer job
  4. will they be at confor longleat in september be interested in seeing one working.
  5. +1 how big is the lawn is it cut and collect or mulch it, how much have you got to strim how long do you think it will take you to do it. how many times do they want it cut fortnightly through the summer. how far to get to it or is it local. let us know and may be able to give you a ball park figure. if its a big lawn be there a long time with a 17inch mower. you can work out the lenght of lawn by width by your cut so how fast does it take to do one run and how long multiply by the widht this will give you the time it will take to cut it. plus fuel and depreceation of mower and blade
  6. try Gaskins at east meon he does kubota and he may have something in your budget. may pick up a good small JD Hunts chilbolton main agent. NH, valtra as other posts but do not know much about them. seen a new breed Kiota look very good but new on the market so what there like no idear. aimed at the amenity sector. for what you want to pay tractor trader you may pick up a good lowish hours tractor. but buy from a dealer then you have a come back if it goes wrong

    Ticks!

knew a doctor who got lymes when walking in the new forest it affected his nervous system and was off work for over a year. nasty as bad as weals. makes me shudder writing about it
  9. supply a chap with a Italian pizza oven from Italy. supply him with wood any species of hard wood and he likes what we take say he gets a hot fire. asked him about it and his is as big as a small shed he gets the fire going when he has some hot embers he pushes this to back of oven then puts more in so it is burning hot. he watches top of oven when it goes white he is ready to cook says it takes a minute to cook a pizza going over next week to sample one. but never asked for certain type wood what we give him is elm, ash, beech bit of sycamore.
  10. then thats the real story not what the press put down. poor sod gets tangled gets his groundie to help and some low life nicks his van and chipper. hope he gets it back and he is ok. nothing safe dare not leave anything worth nicking out of eye shot or it will be gone.
  11. +1 gallop mixed with chikara the last stops weeds coming back up. you will need your certificates to get it but it will kill it much stronger than roundup. Rigby taylor will be able to supply it very good firm and prices good.

    Ticks!

re ticks in woods a word of caution if deer ticks they carry limes disease not nice. woodsman advised that if wearing lace boots then wear gators over top so they have no were to grab to climb up or wear smooth boots. i do not know if you can have a injection against lime disease. be careful out in them woods. as yet not found any in mine
  14. +1 same hear not a arb person but use saws but get so much info on other things to do with engines landscaping etc learnt a lot since joining and as above do not know a thing about all the different ropes and pulleys you guys use. be good to know a bit more just so i know what you are all talking about but since looking at what you guys do hate being up high but thinking of having a go with a trainer just to say i have climbed as it does look good being up in the canopy of a tree looking over a wood.
  15. +6 just put drum open on ground put stand on clip it on pull back on handles up it comes on stand. make sure ground is level as they can if not fall over as you lift them back but easy job. same in reverse to take it off. have job with my 5/3 thats a trailer job to move around but can mix 3 barrows of concrete up in a go.

  17. +1 as gardenkit and other posts hydraulic oil is made for hydraulics made for that job expensive game if you had to replace pump. plus downtime with no chipper.
  18. under the sale of goods act 1979 para 14 they have 21 days to rectify the problem. it is now 30 days. send them a formal letter recorded delivery that they either send the saw back fixed. replace with new or refund your money in full. failure to do any of these within 7 days. take out a small claim in court for the cost of replacing saw loss of revenue due to no saw, postage and telephone costs. see if that awakens them from there slumber. cost a lot more than replacing saw
  19. what a setup you lot have only do it on a small scale but looking how you do it. need to look into doing it more professional the crate idear looks good but do not have anything to load it only handball. hence keep it loose in woodshed. still cut up about 3 tonne today. need to find some seasoned wood. to fill it up. untill i can get in wood and haul out some more. have a customer who is still using it. uses it for his bread oven. says its cheaper than running on gas.
  20. had a try of one and what a saw light power was awesome. when i can afford a new saw it will be the saw i get.
  21. +1 very good firm to deal with lucky i am not to far to travel to get them as delivery if £15. you could try your local coppice group hampshire buy them in bulk and sell on at discounted prices to members, but as for lightness as other post its good charcoal. i only started this year. and already have 4 happy trade customers coming back for more. now need a bigger retort. looking at yours woodworks looks very good if ok can i copy your idear as to buy a ring or a ready made one is over a thousand need to make a lot of charcoal
  22. hi looking for a log supplier. family have a wood burner and looking for a supplier. if any one can help please
  23. go and look in a big maplins do some very good cctv stuff looked at one which was 24hrs was linked to phone or pc if it was tripped it came up on pc or alerted you on phone. if i am correct had 4 cameras and was less than a £1k to buy did a solar unit to fit to it to power the unit so saving on cable
  24. i use oregen a dark red one 3,5ml lasts a long time and cuts through anything. tried the yellow did not last long. tried a new one with wire in just broke. will stick to the dark red one it works for me
  25. re doing near watercourses. you need a AW licence on your PA6 and need a permit from EA to treat it. you may get it done this year if EA pull there fingers out and issue permit and theirs a charge for doing it and they may want to do a site visit. still be ready to do it next spring when it rears its ugly head again:biggrin:
