  1. re all this arb stuff getting nicked. talking to local countrywatch officer and gave some tips smartwater do a kit not expensive can mark all gear with pen so if picked up shines up with your smartwater dna also can put stickers on to say its marked. bigger stuff chipers etc you can get security kit which put microchips in it you can immobilize it with your phone if its moved it alerts you and firm and police are called and its tracked. but it is getting out of hand every day some poor sod or firm are having gear nicked. friend mowing parked his van up in churchyard looking at van they went blindside took a lot of his strimmers blowers etc by time he got to them drove off never to be seen again. maybe these new commissioners need their ears chewed to get something done get paid to sort things out

  5. was getting concerned i had not heard a cuckoo this year and today in a village i would not think i would hear one and heard its song. getting rare now. swallows seem not many about saw some begining of april not seen hardly any since.
  6. it will sell £50 for that wish i could get that for so little and not very good wood. maybe i should never know may make more than selling as firewood
  7. +1 to all you have said if you are there showing what you do then out of 8 hours on site you may get 2 hours max working rest will be talking and handing out cards. have some photos of work you have done so they can see your work finished. and have different hand tools you use to show what they do. word of caution on last keep them by your person or out of eye sight. little hands love to pick things up. last thing you want is a law suit for little johnny being injured. and have you PL liability cover most shows now ask for it. so if something happens on your pitch your covered.
  8. its like the american signal crayfish has become a pest in rivers pushing out the native crayfish yet the EA in their wisdom say you need a licence to catch them totally bonkers love to trap them and have them for tea
  9. get hold of your country watch officer sussex have them and tell him or her. trouble is if you go through the normal channels it just gets put down as a crime statistic. failing that get hold of the police commissioner. he is there to right the wrongs. let him know your feelings. and you want something done. 15k is not a small sum. re insurance try concorde insurance at eastleigh just done me a very good quote for all my jobs

  14. a very good show at netley marsh good to meet up with and thanks to Dorset hedgelayer and his wife for there hospitality and kept in brew all weekend and the scrumptious cake had a good weekend with a lot of interest in both our styles. Dorset and south of england. brought the art of hedgelaying to the general public, many said they had seen it on countryfile so that had brought it also to the public eyes good to see a fellow arbtalker at the show. will be displaying at sparsholt on the 18th if any one around.
  15. grazon will kill most weeds and if done at the correct rate not kill the grass. hence its name may make it go a bit yellow but will recover. re trees and shrubs not a good idea to go near with any herbicide i use a board to protect any thing like hedging if spraying near to them. grazon is soon if not already to be removed from the market. also may be a bit late spraying as docks, rag are now growing past the rosette stage so may not be effective on killing them
  16. any fellow arbtalkers chain saw carvers at netley marsh this weekend saw them start work but on stand all day so did not get round to look. had a look as going out and some nice work under way
  17. i will be at matterley bowl in august for the british round of the world champs. good bit is i can get in for free. a bonus and good racing superb track
  18. and i kept to back roads as well bit bouncy on the back and round corners.
  19. very fortunate that i live near the test and itchen two of the best wild trout rivers in the world. have fished both being in the right place and talking to the keepers. nothing better on a warm summers evening with a small dry fly looking for the rise and casting just above hoping the trout will take the fly. use a 7ft6inch brook rod with weight forward 4 to 5 line. ideal for rivers. also good sport is fishing for grayling in the winter with a grayling witch or water hen boa. i believe better fishing than trout do they fight yet to fish for sea trout love to have a go.
  20. checked the weather on weather school best site for weather. tonight early sat light rain clearing away to leave rest of weekend sunny monday 20c but with a bit of wind. if you see a nissan navara with a large bundle of brash and binders hanging out of back going west on m27 it will be me saturday lunchtime. thinking bank holiday not a good idea will take back roads in. hope to see a few of you there
  21. it should say on old battery what it is but i would say its going to be in excess of a 100ampere per hour big old engine so will need a good battery to turn it over more so in winter
  22. +1 for sthil blower mines a dog to start and now less than a year old the stop has stopped working so it still runs and heard its the norm. so there all as bad as each other. have some good kit and bad kit. if huskys out then what about a oleomac. very good saws
  23. do not know what part of country you are but in september october will be having a hedgelaying training day nr winchester hampshire. cost will be £35 per person for the day. this is membership to cover insurance and the cost of trainers and materials. cheap as some groups are charging £100 plus for a day if anyone is interested pm and will put your name on list max is 10 people per session. all hand tools will be provided just need strong trousers and welding gauntlets. i use my chainsaw trousers as ideal as padding kneeling down. if i get enough interest will hold a second day for those who miss out on first one. and hoping to have a comp early next year south of england style. just need some sponsors for the event. will be a novice class, open, and team so those who do not do much can enter the novice.
  24. countryside show netley marsh nr southampton about 2 miles from j2 m27 west. or same j1 m27 east will be well signposted. sparsholt is at the land base college nr winchester. and 3rd one is up A3 from portsmouth cheers hedge
