  1. just read the mapp for grazon should do the trick does not name it but will kill gorse, broom so should do horse tail. try a firm called rigby talyor very good see what they can offer. if grazon is not available was being withdrawn.
  2. go on a site called back loads put in details and will try and match a haulier who can do the job.
  3. little while back was looking to hire some for a job lux traffic systems aprox cost was £300 for days hire including setting up and taken down. hope this helps a bit
  4. what i like about the camon is the rotovator box is a diddle to take off so you can replace the blades off the machine. just two big bolts. if the clutch needs replacing same again its a cone clutch just comes off new one on.but they are robust built for the hire market so have to be strong. but the Camon is for end users as the BCS is for the hire market. just as good as each other. and always found them more than helpful over the years i dealt with them spares delivery was first class. as for the others not tried them so can not comment.
  5. the radio said they had a fire resistant tent and the fire back drafted and the tent did not save them bar one very sad indeed a very dangerous job. thoughts go out to all the family's at this sad time
  6. son in law just got the Oregon Fjordland Chainsaw trousers have to say look nice very light and look comfortable and price was good £115 from forest and arb. a lot lighter than my phanner gladiators.
  7. if i was to buy a rotavator i would look at nothing else but a BCS. or Camon rotavator. one of the best rotavators out there had two a 11hp honda and a 18hp lombardini the latter would rotavate anything a animal of a machine. also you can get other bits for them if not rotavating so utilizing it.chipper.mower you name it nearly you can get attachments for it. Steven Pit is your man at Burgess Hill very nice chap and a good firm to deal with
  8. spot spray with grazon 90 depends how big docs are if in roseate stage will kill them if bigger or woody then not much use. so only course of action is try and dig them up but go down a fair way.
  9. get a 1.5 digger do a lot of ditches with one. if access is a problem then get a 0,8 or 1 tonne digger. still got grunt as for a tracked dumper kubota do a very good one can put a good tonne of material in back. go on kubota website have a video of one in action. have a word with Phil at Wessex plant bristol he will be able to help you out
  10. see what others post but having seen alco stuff do not rate it. best bit on them is the engine. i would spend the money on a good second hand honda, mountfield, toro. if it is in good nick will lasts longer than a new alco will
  11. found out dust masks that stop the spores is 3M 9332S spoke to technical department and recommended this one for doing woodchip, milling cutting dry logs etc trust this helps out keep safe.
  12. An FFP3 respirator is advisable if you are exposed to high levels of grain dust or mould spores. Even if you have this information, finding a suitable respirator is not simply a matter of choosing a model you like the look of, or the cheapest. Not all faces are the same and neither are disposable respirators. You might need to try different makes or sizes to find one that fits without leaking around the seal and letting dust in. A respirator that depends on face fit is useless if you have a beard or thick beard stubble. The only way you can know if the seal is good enough is by having a proper respirator fit test. At present this is also the only way of meeting legal requirements. The respirator manufacturer’s helpline, testing companies and reputable suppliers will be able to advise you. found on HSE site for masks. will find out about the FFP3 ones and put a link up on them.
  13. i am going to have to make up something to put cord in to keep wet. eg a old ice bag with wet rags in and put cord inside. now using precut on bearcat be a god idea to keep it soaked. it all comes down to money. if you can save on cord in a day by using less then all the better.
  14. i know it would not be much good when cut. but what about a spring balance measure as used in fishing. rigged in some way, so when you cut it gives weight of limb that's going to be lowered. you and groundie would then have a idea what weight you are lowering and work with that cutting smaller or larger bits. but i am no arb person so i am just chucking in my two penny's for what it is worth. theirs a art to tree surgery. learn so much reading these threads. watch experienced people and do not think of this having to lower heavy timber down. your clever bods. stick with me landscaping and hedgelaying.
  15. started reading up on this and pig farmers in america who kept pigs in sheds started getting it as they kept them on woodchip and the chip went moldy so when they were clearing out the sheds the spores were every were. and it is different from farmers lung. waiting to hear back from GP to see if they have any info on it or know of its existence. how many people go in unwell and gp says it the flu when it could be ODTS. also normal dust masks do not stop the spores being breathed in may have to be ones for doing spray painting that stop very small particulates needs a lot more research into this and maybe the colleges who do aboroculture should be making students aware of this. the report i read also says that if you do get it you are likely to get it again as it affects the immune system to guard against it. be careful all of you who move chip regularly
  16. i have a knife on the honda which cuts it to correct length do not like having long cord it makes the engine rev hard it shakes the strimmer. but with correct length and string it cuts well. just need to find the right string for strimmer. that works well does not wear out to quick.
  17. have your trailer marked with smart water and stick the stickers on. as for insurance i use a local chap concorde insurance chandlers ford got me some very good deals on insurance
  18. i coppice and do hedgelaying my two tools are my silkie and a anvil lopper. for smaller stuff the loppers are faster to cut with bigger stuff then silkie or chainsaw. bow saws pain in butt with whats in the market now
  19. well i have just got a echo bearcat walk behind strimmer had a DR before. what a machine it cuts through most things and self propelled saves lugging a strimmer all day. downside it likes a drink did a 2 mile foot path today normally a 3 day job with strimmer but used 5 ltrs of fuel doing it and the string lasts a long time but it is aprox 6ml cord so should cut
  20. have you reported it to your countrywatch officer they will be interested. if nicking yours will try it again with someone else.
  21. well after all the threads re using smaller line for strimmers i got oregen starline 2,5 have tried it on grass and have to say not impressed at all with my normal 3.5 line i can go half a day cutting long grass and engine does not loose power just cuts it down the new line filled it 4 times today just keeps breaking not a happy bunny will not buy any more on line can any one say where i can get 6mm cord need it for my echo bearcat walk behind now thats a beast cuts it down did a 2 mile footpath both sides grass 6ft tall in 4 hours. do not say why not use a flail mower next on list when i can afford one. but need some more line and not many stock this large size. thank you
  22. the kubota is good but the mower deck is not brill as other posts rear discharge they get clogged if long or wet. had to strim some long grass today for the council as kubota would not cut it as clogging up i strimmed it down he then cut it and blew it into collector but it still blocked up had to clear it.if i was going for a ride on would look for a side discharge model. eg yanmar shibaru ford.it then gets thrown out and does not clog under deck
  23. its a difficult one if you do disturb nest and you do get seen doing it and the authority come along i stand corrected i believe its £5k for disturbing nest £5k for disturbing the mother £5k for the nest and depending on what species say blue tit has 9 young 9x £5k its a a big fine. but how dangerous is tree if council want it down ask the council to get the rspb to check it if happy for tree to be felled you have it in writing and covered
  24. never heard of it channel 5 cowboy builders spring to mind. say you want the saw back working with a new bar and chain. and that the saw was perfect when he fitted the wrong chain for bar. if he tries to charge you. take it to a independent dealer and get a report done on what has happened to saw, the cost to fix and sue him for the repairs. if you goes to court with the facts the judge will award it to you he will not have a leg to stand on.
  25. try a Honda my sthil as other posts the on off switch has broken expensive to get repaired if its like my strimmers should be good. or a husky back pack had a go of one and it had some force, better than my sthil its good but not as good as the husky back pack
