  1. with nursing sadly those who do a nurse degree unlike old days hardly see a ward untill they have finished there exams. if you wanted to be a nurse you did your basics then went on a ward and did everything including doing the bed pans then did more classwork and back on wards including nights. no more hence so many care asistants because not all but a lot will not get there hands dirty. we have become in this country must have a degree and same with firms. must have a degree for job. whats happened to the old fasion train on the job whilst getting the paperwork. as has been said on this forum re having the skills to do the job to be a tree surgeon you can be good on paperwork but are you any good with tools. it takes years to hone those skills under a good mentor. how did the older ones learn being shown how to do it at the coal face. yes have trained people but part of that training should have a part for working on the job and checked by someone when doing certain jobs. and a lot getting degrees are not getting jobs.
  2. we have some big wasps coming indoors at night dirt great things twice the size of a normal wasp. was told german wasps. well if so go back to germany soon as i see them im off not hanging around with them flying about. making my hairs on back of neck tingle at the thought stay well clear of wasps do not like them one bit do good i know but make me sweat.

  5. as its my window can not do that had no choice on who i used if i used a very good firm the insurance said it was £100 so had to use autoglass which as you say along with auto windscreens are not good. its a con that they make you use who they want and not go to a independent to have it done. all getting a cut out of it. if i had used the local chap been done by now got to wait for autoglass as did not have it in stock. second time they do not keep them in stock. first time windscreen took 2 days to get it.
  6. there is a post going on aspen and if you have a look eddie aspen has put dealers in scotland. never use anything else in my blower chainsaw. i ran out yesterday and needed to finish off a job used normal 2 stroke the fumes i was glad to get done as it stunk using normal 2 stroke. the goverment should be giving a rebate for using this fuel. but its tax
  7. what a good job to have not a hard job keeping them clear and letting you guys know my countryside lot do not want to know of anything i have to report back to parish and they get me to do the jobs eg putting back up finger posts and mending stiles. as for planting pansies in borders not yet. worst job is litter picking i hate it. and last week strimming away and hit something next thing covered in strongbow and i stunk. if counciler had come along he thought i had been drinking. and it was 3 full cans i hit and they all shot strongbow over me:biggrin: the lengthman is a good little job to have own boss as long is jobs are all done. hardly see anyone. to have a full time job as one nice little number.
  8. strimming today a bank next to footpath. was strimming towards bank. finished job. went to put strimmer back in truck to find a bullet hole in back window. stayed whole all the way home got out shut door and it exploded all over back seat and pick up back. now waiting for glass firm to replace it will not be done until tomorrow and its raining. and its going to cost me £50.
  9. best saw i had in its day was a oleo mac 350 what a cracking saw cut loads. and last 15 years before it died. like to try a new one but are they as good. 576xp is good but heavy. liked the 550xp nice saw. and little echo 320 now running on aspen good little saw. every one has there fav saw no matter what model. or make sthil make good saws. just like huskys more. dolmar made good saws in there day
  10. looking for a recoil housing for a 026 if any one has one or a machine that is past its best i can use for spares be interested thank you
  11. what is his job then is he just doing the one village. i know the one in hampshire that is a big parish so needs a full time person to keep up with all the work. the ones i do range from a few hundred houses up to villages with a lot of area. and i could be kept busy in 3 of them all the time. have to say starting to get extra work from the bigger parishes on a private job basis. which is good. come winter the little parishes struggle to find work for the hours allocated.
  12. hi matt just saw thread is he going full time as parish lengthman those jobs rare as hens teeth only one in hampshire waiting for job to come up bob and no spring to mind
  13. +2 dodgy ground using chemicals near a watercourse without EA aproval. IF it was to contaminate the water and kill anything the bill would be astronomical, best to play safe and get the EA on your side, draw back its not going to get approval tomorrow can take months for them to push pens about
  14. for the price can not go wrong good make saying that my worcester was not that good had a few problems. i got a new one and fitted a Remeha what a combi boiler so much better.
  15. re strimmer if you are only strimming then there are as good machines as the sthil. honda 425 mine has never let me down and it was abused did more than it should have. 4 stroke, or Efco very good machines. as other post are you wanting to do other things combi system is good so many attachments go on them. but a fs 90 with strimmer hedgecutter. looking at a 1k for one. so not cheap efco do a very good combi so do echo lot less money but just as good kit. did look at a echo strimmer to put a hedge cutter on but shaft is so long it would be hard work using it so will go combi for shorter shaft for doing hedge cutting.
  16. the trouble is if you can not find a job and you say there are loads. have a freind very talented. in IT lives in linconshire can not find a job he has tried there is nothing why he is over 55 and to old for IT. those who he sends a cv to do not say it but he knows its the truth. go to the north east were the ship building took place. just no jobs what few jobs 1000 apply for one. the goverments we have had have let our industries go down. when they asked for help they refused saying againts EU charter. now what is happening ford gone to turkey why subsidised by turkish goverment to move there Dyson,Tetleys, just to name two who had a hand out by EU goverments to move there plants abroad. bombadier sold out by goverment underground trains contract awarded to a british firm turned out was a dutch firm made them in Holland. the list goes on. if the goverments had looked and kept half of our industries going our coffers would be in better shape and very little looking for work. can not see if someone looses there job thats £67 a week to pay out £20 would have kept his job going. and he be paying taxes so they get it back. we are poodles of the EU sooner we are out the better then maybe we can trawl back what we have lost without the EU sticking there nose in. have to agree on some parts of posts there are those who do not want to work and will never work as they are being paid nicley. as they know all the ways to get as much as they can for no return
  17. as other posts nothing new. father in law said that a lot of beech trees are past there best. due to under management of them. the tree that fell did it have the black spot in middle. most we cut up which had fallen had the black spot in middle
  18. is anyone interested in learning to use a scythe. have started to see that a number of jobs could be done just as quick and easy using a scythe. saves on cost of fuel cord. and is quicker. if you are and in my area. waiting to hear back from a trainer to show how its done. once i have more details eg cost how many he can take at a time will post. there will be the cost of a scythe to go on top of course fees. and possible be near winchester the venue.
  19. sounds like he is playing you both off to see if one of you will do it cheaper. sounds like shipping wars on tv. as you say not worth doing the job, so cheap you come out with nowt.
  20. are they scrumpy apples or cookers look cookers yum apple pie and crumble in abundance
  21. if you have the tools and the time and the skill you can make anything. half of what he had would make making things easier. my skills are with metal wish i had what i need to make things. plasma cutter. forge, anvil swage block swage tools, industrial hammer. can only dream to get these things maybe one day. still enjoy the woods now and coppicing. do not need much for this just gain more skills in using all thats in the wood to its full potential. but he did make some very nice seats.
  22. no matter what you do someone will come in and undercut you. i priced a grass cutting job quoted £40 a cut every two weeks on a recreation ground. a large firm priced it at £30. why they had to go that way cutting other jobs so it paid for there fuel. could not compete with them. quoted for a grasscutting job was £50 cheaper went with the other firm as bigger nad thought they would do a better job. they noe know they do not. so even if they did not by climbing gear on the cheap will still go for job and beat you on price. all you can do is carry on and get work on recomendations and references. there are still people out there who want a decent job done at a fair price. not for the cheapest.

  24. i have one its your immobilizer light to say its working. when you lock the truck it will light up and flash.should have looked more as you say its a switch still say its to do with the locking system. switch it on to lock doors switch it off to unlock doors. so the kids can not open doors. in place of the little barrel on doors which you turned to stop doors being opened from inside
