  1. weather school the most accurate i have found 99% correct run by Simon kelling who is a meteorologist so does his own forecasts not taken from the met or bbc. work my week from his forecasts and so far been spot on as for others forget it met office waste of space. wish he come on this site and do one of his vids like on BFF so informative

  3. try these to learn a bit more The Wye Valley & Forest of Dean Hedgelaying Ass' Community Links Officer Wye Valley AONB Hadnock Rd Monmouth NP25 3NG Contact: Sarah Sawyer Tel:01600710844 [email protected] should be now doing hedgeing if they are like south of england will have training days then carry on helping out to keep eye in and show newcomers once you have mastered the skills
  4. thought with the payments back for hedgelaying i had hoped that more work may be about. strange how it goes had 2 lean years not much now this year busy thank goodness. but all due to a agg show i went to got all my work from it so worth doing. have already booked in for next year
  5. how long did it take you to get it done. found out no lengthman next week so if finish hedge with lhamas i can get two 20mts done next week. nice little earner. Dorset may be in need of your skills next season have a double hedge maybe to do one hedge on bank and other on flat in front. be different two styles together
  6. is it got welded joints or are they forged tonque and groove if latter with a shot blast and clean it will fetch good money poss £ 3 to 5 hundred if its welded maybe worth £40 if good one sell to a guy like the salvage hunter.
  7. well wind turbines B^Q sold one once well it was next to useless be lucky if it power a light bulb. to power a house looking at min 5kva will need planning permission to install it as it will be 30mtrs tall to catch wind. and it needs to be a min of 6kph to run it will need a concrete base and need a trench to house cable from mast to house then a box which shows how much you are making from turbine. and how much you are taking so rest you can sell to the grid. and feed in tarrif has dropped so take longer to get your return. last time i looked looking at £20k for one there are some companys who will supply one in return for feed in and let you have your leccy free if it meets there demands eg how much feed in they can get back.
  8. very nice job do not see much this way as sandstone needs to come up from dorset. so makes it a expensive job due to haulage. so mostly flint work which is making a comeback. doing it the proper way knapping flints and fitting them in with limestone morter.
  9. i know customers who have had reports done on there trees. one being a council had to pay for the survey work then same chap did the work he recomended for a price so cost them a 5 figure sum for survey and similar for doing the work. afraid thats the way you sometimes have to go charge them for your report and then a quote to do work. i quoted to do a hedge. two bits 200mtrs and 20mtrs based price on whole job only got the 20mtrs. so dropped a CLANGER as 20mtr hedge is worse than 200mtrs and should have been double what i charged them to do job. learn lessons from it will not get bitten again
  10. if the weather forcast is right cloudy but dry will go even if it does rain which i hope it does not as not good laying in wet. never do it only in comps and its hard work as gloves get wet tools slip get stuff off hedge as its wet not nice. maybe hey should have covers like in cricket to keep competitors dry:laugh1:
  11. keep a eye out for you Digga you busy
  12. keep it to good a machine to get rid of once its gone it be o i wish i had it. if you need to get a loads of logs done hire a processor for a day and split it up ready to take out and sell. can hire one for £200 a day 4 bags of logs rest profit. and no outlay on a splitter

  16. was funny weather today was going to lay hedge but mum was rushed into hospital she comes first but in A&E could see it chucking it down most of the day so not much would have been done and when it rained the wind picked up get these freak weather patterns this time of year with warm air coming in with plenty of moisture but met office was well out on its forecast why do i believe them never right sunshine and showers big showers lasting most of day
  17. the industrial version used by utilities and MOD was offered one a few years back with cab but no back unit trouble wa it was only 2wheel drive if my mind is right there is a guy in shafstbury dorset who has always loads of tractors may be worth a punt advertises in farming machinery

  19. if its a honda engine then will need a new barrel and piston set as ali not cast iron. you may be lucky if you take head off that one of the rings broke hence all the smoke may get away with new piston and get barrel polished by a engine rebuilder
  20. my zubat is what i need for cutting the back of the pleach when i have laid the hedge it cuts so fast by the time i got the saw going i would have cut it with silky. laid 60 mtrs of hedge and all i have used is my grunsfos axe zumbat and pruners no mechanical tool was used in the process thats sat in back of pickup
  21. well in field today one of the male lhamas like in photo got very nasty no matter what he was out to get me spitting at me now lhama spit is not nice it stinks of fermented silage but he was trying to get me over fence in the end had to call owner to get him moved out. said that they can if they get nasty run at whatever it is knock them to ground and stamp on them. im glad i stayed the other side of fence. so watch out if you ever et to do a hedge with lhamas or alpaCHAjust as bad so she said. and i thought horses where bad:laugh1:
  22. at moment listening to anda union from mongolia now its like marmite you will like it or hate it a required ear needed
  23. have to agree the older stuff does hold its money due to collectors so a more modern tractor would be better
  24. only burn dry logs oak, ash, beech, anything hardwood no softwood on any count and have my chimney swept every year if he gets a dustan of soot out its a lot. keep mine burning then shut down last thing lucky if it is still in next morning maybe warm just put kindling on and then logs away it goes
  25. as other posts older JD 7610 or if you can find one a larger kubota. or if go for old ones DB996 /990 ford 5000 case not hydrostactic fordson major will all do what you want on the tin. only the old ones do not have modern gear like power steering
