ear defenders can be higher than that. i use peltor optime III that are rated at 35db. i've also gone with more padding in the ear dome (took it out of my old set of peltor optime III) so they must be near 40db now.

never been and would never go. if it was done knowingly in jest then i'm sure it would be entertaining to see one on stage but it's the fact that they take themselves so seriously that strikes me as odd. i'm surprised in this day and age that someone can have a shop and a business being one as to me it seems like legal fraud.

danis will be fine just use lots of coats. i would like to say that iroko is not the best wood for a goblet if you intend to drink out of it as it could leach out a few tastes that probably won't help the flavour of your drink.

i currently use peltor III ear defenders and had an old set that the band had snapped on. they weren't that old so i stuffed the foam from the broken ones into the new ones and there is a marked difference in quietness. they were originally rated at 37snr (i think) but must be in the 40's now or even approaching 50.

there is a good reason that no one does planks in bright blue or green, they don't exist. as for introducing colours into large boards i'm not sure how well that will turn out but i'd love to see what you do. i'm guessing it will be less wasteful if you were to make the table first and then get the colour on to it. what woods do you have in mind for the table?

why not just use a really hard timber? there are dozens of species to choose from.

some of my favorites are judas tree, mimosa, catalpa and paulownia.

for he chopping board i'd be tempted to leave them as nature intended myself but then i do like the rustic touch. for the table it really depends on the size of the knots in my opinion, if they are gaping cracks then filling them might look odd but if they are thin slivers then i fill with superglue and fine sanding dust. i've no idea where to buy resin but i'm sure someone will. you could try the toolpost. if it's only recently split then it is unlikely to be dry. robinia is a fantastic firewood timber and it burns very hot but like all timber it needs to be nice and dry for it to burn well. as you've just split it i'd leave it for another year or two and then use it.

it's tough stuff alright but i hope they realise it won't last more than 5 years or so. should carve ok though and take nice detail. give it a million coats of danish and it might last a bit longer. another problem could be that it shrinks like mad, i lost 30mm off the width of a 14" bowl so it could tear itself apart as it dries.
