  1. so if i were to change my avatar to a photo that was the same height as its width then it would not look squished correct?
  2. i've just worked it out. thanks anyway.
  3. this is not a glitch but how do i stop arbtalk from sending me an email notifying me that i have a PM. i can't find out how to change the settings?
  4. i'm starting to get that tubby steve. i'm happy to have all avatars the same but i will ask as to why they are circular when we generally take square photos?
  5. my avatar is also rather squashed. i'm liking the new site mr bullman (well done by the way) and i am getting used to it but can we have the option of a square avatar again?
  6. after a couple of coats of danish i nailed on the components and i'll be presenting it to the winning team tomorrow night. they have the last engraved shield which i'll nail in place just before i present it. .
  7. then i had to finish the shield and give it a stand made from the offcuts of the table top. .
  8. then i tested what a coat of danish oil would look like. then i organised the components. .
  9. here is a shield trophy i've just made for my own tenpin bowling league that i bowl in on tuesday nights at the heathrow airport bowl. as they were passing round a sheet of paper in the league deciding what bit of crappy MDF they wanted to waste over £100 on i said that i'd like to make one that was worth winning and could be considered an heirloom. it's made of cuban mahogany recovered from an old table top i got from ebay. the top was faded and the underside was dark but once sanded it came up beautifully. .
  10. i've also done a couple more meels but now i'm moving this will cease for a period. .
  11. here are all the skittles i've been doing. .
  12. it's a staff used for pomp and ceremony in church apparently. a fella who lives locally comes from nigeria and it's a big thing out there as they are very religious and every time someone is ordained they buy one of these for the occasion. it could be a good seller as he said that there are about 3000 people who go to the church in his fathers village. he's going back to nigeria to get his dads permission to start making them and selling them to the church goers. 32 1/2" long by 36mm at its widest and the shank is 25mm tapering down to 16mm at the tip.
  13. practice with the skew can give you joy when it works and tears when it goes tits up...
  14. i've also been working on lots of skittles and even doing things like trophies and dinner plates. pics to follow.
  15. well, i've been proper busy for a while now and the beard has got even bigger... this is called a moses staff. .
  16. i did see one thread where a person had all their images not showing but there were others in the same thread that had theirs showing. i can't remember what i was looking at the other day but it may have been one of mine. either all my work so far or the one i started for wood turned bowls.
  17. i'm still getting used to it and thought the addition of new post is a bit slow myself. i'm no techno geek and i doubt that most of us are either so it's probably that users new and old are just finding their way around the site. as far as the todays news idea there is a button that says view unread posts. that's what i've been hitting.
  18. looking good mate. are they to go with my plates?
  19. saw this one on murdered for being different. [ame] [/ame]
  20. ok so the advice is basically level the front and the back hedges yes?
  21. yes, its a 5 minute walk from reading station.
  22. if anyone can give me some ballpark figures then i'd be grateful as mum needs to know what she would be spending on this before she puts in an offer on the house. feel free to round up to the nearest hundred or thousand... if you need any more info on the work then please ask.
  23. all my timber is going into a lock up and with any luck i'm moving into a workshop in reading. no timber is to follow mum to this new property.
  24. i'll wait for a few quotes before i accept that dan...
  25. this area also needs tidying up and the ivy removing from the wall... .
