  7. A customer has asked me to make a bench out of a log for his camping area (he has a big garden) so I have made this rustic bench out of a sweet chestnut we felled a few weeks back. Milled on site it's about 8ft long and 250mm thick feet also 250mm thick. Took the bark off and sanded down the tops and ends. Bolted together. Just need to make some dowel for the 4 bolt holes. Would it be worth coating it in anything or just leave it as is? And what would you charge for a simple bench like this?
  8. Cut the rot off see how much stem is left? I'd be tempted to quarter saw some of it even with those branch knots and see how it goes. Not done much beech so I'm sure someone with more knowledge will come along.
  9. I'm not sure if I'm missing something but it think you may be confusing cedar and laburnum. Laburnum is a yellow flowering tree that has seed pods that look like pea pods and a far as I'm aware they are poisonous. Some kids think they look like a tasty snack.

  13. Have you borrowed one of Bolems silky gloves?
  14. I have a 576 and it's been a good reliable saw but if I had to choose again then I would go for 461. 372 is tempting though.
