HI JIM the green stuff will be fine. Good to see you finally bought one, you will like it. Read the manual though and set the autotune, its not critical that you do it right away ie you wont screw it up but it is advisable to get it sorted.

Firstly sorry to hear about the break in and theft. Why are the insurance company sending you a saw out? Shouldn't they just give you a check to buy new ones If its a maximum of 20" then a 660 is over kill, pop into your local dealers and pick one up, its a lot different than the 260's you have been using! MS461 sounds like a better bet tbh.

HP is rated at FB whereas HP Ultra is FD, I think! HP is a mineral oil and ultra a fully synthetic. On speaking to a few people in the know and a few customer experiences I would recommend running the stihl m-tronic/ husky autotune saws on the middle of the range oils, ie Stihl HP Super or Husqvarna Low Smoke+. They are both semi synthetic and rated at JASO FD.

I would recommend the rig. Some spliced/ sewn eyes will get jammed up in the standard pinto,we know from trying them out.

I think thats global economics for you. There are probably hundreds of reasons why saws are sold from the manufacture to the suppliers to the dealers at different prices worldwide. No doubt the exchange rate is a big factor, volume of sales in a given country, cost of running the business(warehouses, staff salesperson network, advertising etc, etc) will be variable from country to country, what price that particular market will pay is probably another big factor, etc,etc,etc. Not everything is more expensive in the UK, we get asked all the time to ship items to Australia, the USA, Europe etc because its cheaper to buy from here and ship it out. Some stuff can be shipped but most suppliers stipulate that we can only sell to the UK market to try and combat the problems the above causes, ie this thread. It just seems that there are lots of companies that either don't have this ruling from the suppliers in in their country or they dont abide by it. Although when we get asked to send 200 harness out to Malaysia or Pakistan, all paid for by credit card so, you know its kosher:thumbup1: it is quite tempting.

We thought the same thing. Although I dont think that will wash with Stihl, I think its more like a machine manufactured with an exposed blade etc,but, well you never know! Ah right, probably the first person Ive heard convert a pro 50cc to 3/8P, interesting. I haven't seen any of the PS chain yet just the PS3.

The stihl policy is changing soon if not already. Basically the only item's that will require a hand over will be machines with an un covered blade(well some wording to that affect) i.e. chainsaws, hedge trimmers, brush cutters with a blade etc. Everything else will be ok to post.

Page 51 of the 2014 catalogue picco super (PS) starting code 3617 as opposed to picco super 3(PS3) starting code 3616. I'll have to chase it up, should be the same price too.

The oregon chain is the better of the two but as suggested the sihl full chisel is a good option. We have that on the site now as I make the loops up 45 DL for the 12" bar or 52 DL for the 14" bar on the husky. Only thing I suggest is that if you are not that hot on keeping the depth gauge down you soon will be! Stihl are bringing out a full chisel with better ie less safety ramps, got some on order but not sure when it will be in.

No problem, The husky ordering site says they are in stock so you shouldnt have any problem s trying to get hold of them.

Although its something we dont stock(only due to the fact there are so many different types of trousers from Husqvarna) it is something I can order in if you cant find them online elsewhere. We order with Husky more or less every other day so its never a problem ordering any husky gear in, well aslong as they have it in stock! Prices would be £93.75 + VAT for the functional carpenters £71.87 + VAT for the classic carpenters

TBH I dont think its selfish. The saving you mention is a lot of money and I wouldnt blame anyone for choosing the cheaper option. But, the outcome would probably be that you would find UK dealers wouldnt bother stocking machines, repairing them under warranty or selling spares. Some already go down this route, they sell arb/forestry gear but not machines, others will stock machines but price them higher than internet prices to make it worthwhile. Although we try our best to be competitive i'm afraid that if mediplogs is right and got a 32% discount then there is no way on earth I would contemplate matching that price! It would be better for me to sell the saw at cost price and tell the customer to never come back! That is a crazy discount which most dealers would agree with, with quite a few ****** thrown in. No seriously, we are all business men/women if something isnt profitable we have a few choices, We work out how to make it profitable which could mean a major revamp of how our business runs, We stop providing that service/product We charge accordingly to make it profitable and risk not selling our service/product To try and put it into perspective, we have made far more money selling cooking stoves than we have combining all the chainsaw sales from both manufactures together, by say 10 fold. This is the business we are all in, if it was easy and made us loads of money arbtalk probably wouldn't exist! We would all be jet skiing from our 40ft yacht in the med.

Machines are the least profitable products we sell. We pay a lot more than £330 and thats excluding the VAT. Easy lift is probably on the money and check out Josh's post.

Sorry mate didn't see your last post. The stihl visor will fit the peltors. We have the visor in stock but not the peltor ear muffs, although we do have the msa 31 in stock along with the aspen2.

I have less back pain now than in previous years before using a treeflex. TBH I havent thought about this since reading this thread. But then then thats what happens with pain, all of a sudden you realise you havent been suffering! Could be related but I cant guarantee that. Although I did suffer quite bad at times so there is a good possibility that the treeflex did help.

You could be right, although lets not complain about last summer, it was long over due!! My thought was that type A are so good now its like your not really wearing chainsaw trousers, hence the trend to wear them if possible. You wont regret it. I would of thrown in a free husky fuel can(as promised way back when) but since there isnt a single one left in the UK I had no chance. As above but ultimately comes down to your employer, be that direct or indirect. More and more climbers are moving over to type A. Funny really, we use to to wear type A, then we were told to wear type C so just did and tbh didnt think nothing of it really. This was back when type C trousers were sold in togs. Now the trousers are far lighter and thinner every one wants type A! Cant blame anyone though, ive been wearing type A for a long time and wouldnt go back, not all our work is up in the tree.

Yeah, well sort of. They dont fit them to the 540 from the factory but the oil cap from the 550xp fits both tanks on the 540. Sold absolutely loads of them tbh. Shameless punt. Those muffs will fit the helmet but the visor definitely wont fit unfortunately.

The highest rating onesewe have are the msa 31snr which are are a direct replacement for the husky ear muffs.

Oooops!! What happened there? Limb pulled the saw away? Happened to one of our customers although IIRC had reckons he didnt drop the saw on the strop but probably got it wedged hauling it up or around the tree.I ended up taking one off a stock saw as we didnt have spares in, now ive got a few I havent been asked for any! Although our one has a very slight bend in it but it hasnt gotten any worse as doesnt pose a problem ATM. Yep think its great TBH, cant fault it. We have a couple of very good 200's and I would pick the 540 up over them anytime. Buy one, you know it makes sense. No seriously as a climber and not a salesman they are definitely worth buying, there will obviously be a few problem saws but that can be said for all machines no matter what brand or model.

A quick look over the IPL shows 3. One by the rope loop, one at the bottom of the side handle and the hidden one at the front attachment point on the top handle, underneath the on/switch as per the 020.
