  1. For just over twice that price you could get a CE tested harness from a big brand. I must say the big manufactures do get it wrong from time to time and that is with all the regular checks and inspections they do. Plus if they do find a major fault they will recall the product, I wonder how many of these unknown brands would do the same? I would buy a used branded harness before buying that one tbh, it doesnt seem to have any conformity to any kind of testing be it CE or ANSI.

Cheers WesD and no problem. Good to meet your FIL, he seemed like a good bloke . I hope you crank that whip and have him working and not slacking off like us oldies like to do!
  3. From what I have heard and read the powers that be do want two stroke engines gone, they dont really care what replaces them and how efficient it is, to a degree. I guess more of a stihl 4 mix kind of engine but who really knows what the manufactures are developing? But I guess it is going to be more of a move to battery machines. The big brands are certainly developing those products (and have a 10 year plan from what I hear) as soon as there is some leap forward with battery tech it will take over. Sort of off on a tangent but the stihl 4 mix, does it achieve lower emissions? I know a lot of people have had bad experiences with it but I know plenty of operators 5 years in who love their machines. I think a lot depends on obviously using decent fuel and oil but how the operator runs the machine. My personal experience is that machines like to be used, having them sitting on idle or sitting in the shed does then no favours.
  4. Always interested to hear of new technology.
  5. I think there is so much pressure on two stroke machines that husky, stihl plus many other brands need to either revolutionise two stroke, move to four stroke or move to battery power. It is ear marked for distinction at some point, just like the diesel car seems to be atm.
  6. Now that looks like a nice saw! There is a bit of info in the fuel injection used in the 500 whizzer here. http://www.stihl.co.uk/the-world-first-stihl-injection-electronically-controlled-fuel-injection.aspx# There is a a nice animation video on the right called STIHL Injection - a world first, sorry I cant link to the video directly. In that video posted earlier there wasn't mention of the xtorq/2-mix type of two stroke engines, so combined with this crankcase injection it could be a bit more positive than the bloke in the video portrays. I suppose time will tell but if that stihl saw has the power of a 661 and weighs less than a 461 it will be unbeatable. Well, until someone straps a turbo to one!
  7. 188SLHD009 that is the correct bar for the saw. I would still check the nose sprocket though just in case it is damaged or not fitted correctly etc. Strange that the husky bar wont work on the 372 as it should!
  8. Can you post the exact numbers and letters, paying particular attention to the letters on the problem bar, at least that way I can confirm the specs the bar should be. If the chain isn't engaging the bar nose sprocket properly then I would guess it is a .325 sprocket as stubby has suggested. If you have a .325 chain off another machine you could fit it to the bar and see how that looks.
  9. I think in a court of law I think we know who would be right. In reality as long as it is fitted and sealed correctly im sure the difference in noise levels would probably be the same but you know how it is. Cant blame the manufactures as they cant say its OK to modify PPE, plus no doubt someone will just chop a big hole in the side of the ear muff and poke the wires through I know quite a few people who say once you have used an intercom you wont want to work without one, I have worked with a few lads were im glad to clamp the ear muffs down and not have to listen to them until break time! Having them wittering on in my ear all day would cause the odd stog to go rogue.
  10. A quick word of warning. I know a few manufactures have expressed concern about people altering the ear muffs to fit this type of headset. They say it will alter the specs and therefore invalidate any warranty and they wont be fit for purpose. Might me OK for yourself but if you do it for an employee and down the line they speak to an ambulance chaser (I have had plenty of phone calls asking if I have suffered hearing damage by these blood suckers) I would say the chances of being sued are fairly good.
  11. Yes we have sold quite a few of the high top and 562 air filter to 560 owners and some of the small mount 3/8 bar, chain and rim sprocket. I will have to look through the parts to see if there are any changes to the carb or coil etc but I don't think there is. Oh and the side casing is different to fit felling dogs.
  12. Thanks for the info. Sorry Stubby, I meant it is going to be new to the UK dealers soon.
  13. I haven't had a chance to check the video it yet and at 45 mins it will probably be awhile before I do! Did they mention the 562xp which is supposed to be it soonish?
  14. It will be interesting to see what they are as I only know about one of them.
  15. As Steve suggests it would be handy to get some pictures of the chain and bar. Make sure you take pictures of the side cutter parts of the chain too. 99% of the time I have found it to be a poorly sharpened/damaged chain that causes curved cutting, a poor bar can jam up in the cut a lot of the time.
  16. I can guess what you are after.
  17. Im thinking the same , a 595xp or something along those lines.
  18. I use a pair of long nosed pliers inserted into the end of the spring that way they can't slip out. One of the worst chain brakes I have changed was an a 3120xp. There were quite a few falls and numerous submissions. Probably some technique I didn't know about on that one!
  19. Go on give us a clue. I have no idea on what they are doing but will be interested to see what it is. As I guess I'm thinking autotune on some of the bigger saws,. They seem to have it sorted with the 550 and 560 now so surprised if they have redesigned those.
  20. I probably wont do all the features of the Simarghu justice but dome interesting features over other brands are things like the floating bridge and lower multi ring. The floating bridge is more difficult to explain than see but basically the webbing that is attached to the red multi rings that the bridge is then attached to isnt stitched to the harness. So, when you twist in the harness ie branch walking the webbing rotates around so not only does your carabiner slide along the bridge the entire bridge moves as well. The multi lower rings can have up to three different bridges so you could have a short one for close up stem work, branch walking etc and a longer one for ascending etc. We then have features like open cell breathable padding, easy and quick fitting chest harness that can be fitted while the harness is in use ie get it passed up if you need more support while using a big saw etc. Plus there are quite a lot of adjustments that can be made to get it the fit just right. Price wise, it is the most expensive harness we buy in hence the higher price. Dont forget, it is designed and manufactured in the UK Always best to try before you buy with harnesses so if local to us pop in as we have a climbing wall you can try it out on.
  21. you Yorkshire lads are as tight as us Scousers Mark, I was hoping someone was going to take one off our hands for free:thumbup1: Is there anything else I should pop in for free so you can trial it out? Update is that we are doing a reduced price for a bit, so check out the new prices.
  22. Im not telling you, you will have to click on the link:biggrin:
  23. [/url]Just a quick one to let those interested that both the male and female harnesses are now in stock. So if you want to call in to the shop and give them a try out you are more than welcome Simarghu Fire - Tree climbing harness Simarghu Gemini Tree climbing harness
  24. Looks good, cheers for the link and information. Was it on a Maruyama machine or did you have the head fitted to another brand of machine? Hoping they will fit Stihl or Husky brushcutters too as that would open the market quite a lot.
  25. Dont worry, after twenty years of doing tree work, mainly domestic I have done my fair share of hedge cutting. Hit plenty of barb wire, metal fences and supports over the years. From the videos though it looks as though stones and concrete walls dont seem to be a problem, although it sounds like you had a few issues using them. Did you find they just blunted or was it mainly damage to the rotary scissor blades?
