  1. ive still got mine from the early nineties - there were some great books out around then
  2. What I remember of the law from many yrs ago was - you can sever roots of your neighbours trees on your property as long as it doesn't make the tree/s unsafe. The trees have not been maintained yes and are at the height which make them at risk to branch failure but this is not the case.
  3. a good move Paul - stress is bad for your health - If you don't get what you want for the gear now, consider selling it in February when a lot of peeps have recovered from the xmas squeeze
  4. Its going to get colder in the next couple of days go for it then - its been wet enough too
  5. certainly a good example of when to brace a tree
  6. ivy - the scourge of the climber - dangerous when climbing - an irritant at best. this job had to be done with a mewp - wind chill of - 8, look at the thickness of the ivy at 50 foot
  7. some mulch around the rooting area will help
  8. yer I know what you mean - spent a lot of time late eighties early nineties studying then loads of work - knackered then later kids - always on catch up since
  9. im guilty of a lot mentioned - oh and sometimes using a ground saw left handed - but im still here - been at it over 25yrs
  10. yes and relieve soil compaction - I should of added -The tree owners need to get advise of a consultant who can visit the site/s and assess them in detail
  11. the Spartacus parody is funny - I will find it:001_smile: this is the best spartacus one [ame] [/ame]
  12. gone viral just incase you havnt seen it Viral video: The X-Files, Ronnie Pickering, James Corden, Claire Danes | Media | The Guardian
  13. It is possible the disease has spread from the roots of infected trees to the roots of healthy trees by root grafting. Bear in mind the root spread trees is over twice the distance of the canopy spread (distance of branches from the trunk) I would have old stumps with the infection ground out with a stump grinding machine. Beech and Oak trees (especially) in the area should be kept as healthy as possible as this is the best defence against the spreading of the disease. This can be achieved with mulching and aeration/mychorrizal injection under the canopy of the trees.
  14. it seems you may have a merip infestation in the immediate area with other beeches being removed
  15. 1. get a good groundie - he is your eyes on the ground 2. when reducing look closely from the ground where you want to make your cuts
  16. its hairs are an an irritant as you said The Sycamore - Acronicta aceris | NatureSpot
  17. sycamore moth - it was on walkabout, no doubt looking for a pupation area
