  1. something happened genetically that made one plant slightly less edible than the other plants. The genes were passed on through seeds and several or several hundred mutations later over millions of years you get todays version. Just my thoughts.

  13. My friend says Natural Englands funds have dropped considerably over recent years - 5 yrs ago there would probably have funded the venture but not now. As for available land, apart from the bodies already mentioned, some local authorities may have some land available.

  16. first contact A A and Forestry Commission to see if anything already started, if not contact the Woodland Trust eg to see if they have the right type of land available. For funding maybe Natural England - it might come under one of their schemes - I will ask a friend tonight - he works for them. If so,it opens up the potential for any landowner (with the right land)

  22. Yes Gary the gall population - will it continue to be high next year? Im no ecologist but I would expect the wasps to re infest year after year providing its has another Turkey Oak close enough and other factors are favourable. It would be interesting to compare the density of infestation on any neighbouring oaks. If neighbouring Oaks have a moderate infestation then this tree may have less vitality possibly due to other factors. If neighbouring Oaks have a similar infestation then I would speculate the reason for this would be favourable seasonal conditions and low P & D or predators.
