  7. I will add - in winter if doing a lot of miles, keep a sleeping bag in your vehicle in case you get snowed in

  9. I heard story about someone who was but roping a hollow poplar once - the butt smashed into the trunk lower down like they do, and it failed at that point - dont know what happened to the climber

  11. you could always drill into the base of the trunk to see how bad they are - if there is only a little sound wood left, I would suggest rigging or topping them out in small sections - Its to reduce the sway of tree that happens when this is being carried out.

  14. I was climbing for a guy a few yrs ago - he had a pole mounted chainsaw and was crown lifting - he managed to cut a bt bundle cable with it - bad day! - the bill to him was £500.00
  15. 1 complete down and 2 hanging from the bracket dislodged from the wall - in 25 yrs so not bad really

  20. Hi Tony - Agreed - but I have found several times, where gardens have been old orchards, honey fungus highly concentrated. yes - and look for for areas whre the bark has lifted
  21. any mycelium under the bark at the base of the trees?
  22. was there an old orchard in the garden in the past - HF loves them
  23. he has got back and said - hard to tell from the pic exactly -but they are at least medieval and possibly roman
  24. grey ware = pots so not sure now - will show photo to an arky guy I know
