    many yrs ago -we thought we were ok one day on felling a beech (a council owned tree approved for removal) - was absolutely gutted when we discovered there was a barn owl nest with eggs in a hollow in the tree

    I would make them mulch. You would get nutrients, moisture retention in soil, and it also aids de compaction. oh - I'm off to work - later guys

    ok I know a formative prune includes the removal of deadwood -

    ok tell your ignorant clients - you will remove any deadwood over 1" diameter and formative prune them - don't forget to add on an extra 20% for being pedantic

    pipistrelles can get in small crevices but I don't think that would be usual for a hibernation roost - im no expert though - best ring a bat expert
