  1. Lantra PTI is always a good one to have
  2. It is certainly well mature enough for the dutch elm scolytus beetle to breed and infect the tree . It could be immune or just lucky so far it hasn't bee infected, It would be better propagating from cuttings than seed I think as genetically it would be identical to the parent tree. Also see this interesting link https://conservationfoundation.co.uk/projects/the-great-british-elm-experiment/
  3. great stuff - nice to see a healthy larger Elm. Do you have DED where you are or do you live in an isolated area
  4. excellent - I want some of what you are on :)
  5. This Is how it is supposed go in vegetation management on Utilities. You are approached by a surveyor to discuss the tree work. The surveyor will propose a re pollard, if you are happy with this you sign for the work, if not the surveyor will propose an alternative. The willow seems to be around 3m from the line already, a directional prune to gain a 5 or 6m clearance could have been suggested as an alternative. This would have been more acceptable to you and you sign for this work. It would also have been enough clearance to keep the electricity company happy until the next cutting cycle.
  6. how old is the tree - when was the house built
  7. funnily enough yrs ago, the neighbour had the same tree and it did the same thing. I crown reduced it (about 20% I think) and set up a couple of guying ropes for her.
  8. first I was thinking Magnolia - now im thinking Viburnum - cant pin it down
  9. Hi Joel. Cutting at either point would be on photo attached will be fine. After pruning the tree should grow vertical as it is away from the influence from other close trees in the nursery situation.
  10. The tree was probably growing amongst other trees in the nursery. It looks a healthy tree, reduce the height to where it is straight. Cut just above a growing point - ie don't leave a stump.
  11. When selling the property, potential buyers will usually get a surveyors report on the property. Any problems will be highlighted in the report. As said, get your insurance company involved now, the problem may get worse if you leave it
  12. pity this pic was not in Prague - the bloke standing behind the Queen could have been her Czech mate
  13. questions no other species growing close by are affected? the trunks look thin for their height - were there other trees at the front of the oaks that have now been felled. Has the ground surrounding the trees been altered in any way. Has there been any storage or spillage of anything near the trees. Did the leaves die in a uniform way or did half of each leaf brown off first
  14. It originally came from the USA Will. The first place in Europe to have it was Holland, hence the name
  15. I remember that, love your positive thinking. I remember some geezer posting something on the forum, moaning about not getting any work, he sounded like a spoilt schoolboy. People were basically telling him to get off his arse and keep trying, you were then referenced as a good example how to be
  16. I was hoping Bran would have accumulated enough 3 eyed raven power to actually levitate and relieve the burden of any wheelchair pushers
  17. Jamie is a cunt a charmer ,but a cunt - I think Jamie liked the fact she was a virgin was the reason he knobbed the gender enigma knight bitch. Sansa had been though some rough times and got through it, she learned how to play the game and regained her confidence and with guile achieved queen of the north - good on her. Danaerys - well her farther was the mad king, her brother was a tyrant in the making, she was on a misguided quest to conquer the WHOLE world BY WHATEVER MEANS so it seems if Kings landing was anything to go by. needed killing. Bran as leader of 6 kingdoms? He did not say much - seemed a compromise - a safe bet.
  18. yes , I should have said, Robinia are the opposite end of the spectrum as far as suckers go. you will have to keep damage to the Robinia roots to an absolute minimum to reduce the suckering impact , they can even push through a hard drive. You obviously cant treat the suckers with glyphosate as they are attached to the tree.
  19. with privet I would say so -anything that would block light.
  20. Mine was different in some ways. I think it was block release - ie 1 or 2 weeks per collage term time. Classroom work of course but we also went on 2, 2 day so called character building weekends in the lake district .That bit was fun. Building a raft with limited resources to cross an estuary, abseiling into caverns, going out at 11 0 clock at night in the pouring rain - putting a sack on your head and trying to get to a meeting point.
  21. I did this many yrs ago when I worked on the council - it was a good course - I don't know if they do it now but they may do something similar National Examination Board of Supervisory Studies NEBSS.pdf
  22. Why does Sansa look like a young boy George!!
