  1. my parents have about 34 acres of woodland mainly mixed soft wood but abouta quater of it is sycamore. my father loves the stuff thay have been there about 12 years now and the first trees we copised now have good thick groth on them an will be ready to be cut again in the next couple of years. it drys fast and the other good thing about it is there arnt to many branches to cut of the main trunk. so you dont have to much clearing up to do when you fell one. that said they havnt burnt any hard wood this year. dad has been thining out the racks of soft wood and most of what has been burnt is dead standing spruce.
  2. love the first dog hes just like my terrier.:thumbup1:
  3. love it. one of the best carvings iv seen on here in a while. it will look even better when it is grey and weathered.
  4. I call it Elvis legs. you know what you have to do and how to do it and have prob done it lots of times before but you cant quite focus to do it cus your bloody knees are giving it Love Me Tender!!
  5. I passed after 97 and what I said is pretty much the same as what Kev said.
  6. As far as i am aware and i have an arse of a copper live a few doors down from me so im pretty aware!!. on a standard driving licence with no trailer ticket. you can drive a total of 3.5 ton including what you are towing. so if your vehicle weighs 2 ton and your trailer weighs half a ton you can have up to 1 ton loaded on the trailer. i think the total weight of what is being towed has to be less than the weight of the tow vehicle and there is also some rule about breaked and unbreaked trailers. hope that helps a bit. tom
  7. I dont do trees any more so no im a pharmasutical process tech but for some reason i get called "The Gay Pirate"
  8. alarm mines work a treat. my parents own 34 acres of woods and get problems wth poachers after the deer we put up signs saying no entry this wood is used for shooting, poacers will be shot and burried in he wood. then i fixed 15 alarm mines to the top wire of the fence all the way round the boundry. if you fix the trip wire to the top wire halfway between two posts near a point of entry then run the trip wire to one of the posts through a staple then into he woods a couple of meters and attach the mine to a post or tree. when the top wire is pushed down to climb over it it tightens the wire at the staple and pulls the pin on the mine. sounds like some one is shoting in the wood. cut the bottom off of a 2ltr coke bottle and sit it over the mine to keep the weather off. we also had some mini flares left over from whn my father had a boat. but some one saw them going off and the police came round and said we had to remove them. another good one is dog poo on the tops of your fence posts.
  9. That's the one I used for my saw review.
  10. I mainly use my MS231 with a 14" bar not to heavy but packs enough punch. I also love my ms201 but they are a bit more pricey. if you don't know what you want and you plan to buy your saw new your local dealer should let you have a go with a few demo saws so you can get an idea of what will suit your needs.
  11. I did a review of this saw a few weeks ago on a thread called saw recommendations. I have since used the 150 again and have decided that whilst it is a novelty using such a toy of a saw it has doesn't have a place in my saw collection. However I really like the small bar it comes with and am thinking about getting a small saw to fit one on.
  12. I tested a 150 back handle for my local saw shop to see what it was like as a detail carving saw and it wasnt great. its very under powered and vibrates like hell on low revs. it also sounds very tinnie. the only thing it has going for it is its super light.
  13. My border terrier is called scrumpy. Iv had two springers and they were both called Bruce.
  14. There is a whole thread on carving saws started a few weeks ago. Dave (Dervish) if you are gatting oil flow problems its most likely a build up of fine saw dust blocking the oil filter and line. if i remember that saw correctly turn it upside down and you will see a black rubber pipe which you can pull off and then push through into the oil tank before removing it through the filling hole. they clean up easily with a bit of wire.
  15. yes feeders and bird boxes in the garden and a hedge hog sleeping in a rabbit hutch. i have spent the weekend in my shed with my daughter building a bird table for her school. we just have to paint it now.
  16. shove a pole saw up there to trim the bristles on the brush and the whole lot will come clattering down the flue.
  17. was glad to get this one finished
  18. i just used it with the bar it came with which is quite small anyway.
  19. So i had the Ms 150 for the day and heres my review of it. when i first picked it up i was amazed at how light it is. when i started it up it sounded very tinny and vibrated alot when reved (for any size of saw) initialy i didnt like it. but as soon as i held it on full revs every thing changed the vibrating leveled off and i was able to do a low relief carving into a slab of wood with virtually no kick back from the tip. i had a go at carving a small mushroom and although a bit under powered it cut well. it is never going to be any bodys main carving saw its designed for pruning small branches and isnt intended to cut anything thicker than about 2 inches. however as a detail saw or for carving low relief designs into slabs and logs its great. its not a saw i would buy for myself to use as i have my 201 which packs far more punch however if in the future either of my kizs want to learn to carve it would be ideal. My daughter is almost 7 and i she would have no problem controlling this saw safely. i did like the Ms 150 however you would get a much more versatile saw for the same sort of money if you bought an Ms 181.
  20. what were you looking for on You tube that you started search with STRAPON ??
  21. i use a Sthil 201 (back handle) with a 12" carving bar and a Ms 231 with a 16" normal bar as my two main carving saws and borrow a 441 when im doing bigger work. the 201 is a great carving saw but a bit pricey. i am doing a big stump carving in a garden this week and have been ask by my local saw shop to try an Ms 150 pruning saw with at carving bar to see what its like as a detail saw. half the price of a 201 but i think its only going to be good for detailing. the Ms 181 is a good carving saw although they get a bit heavy after a few hours. however the 181 does roll from side to side nicely when doing detail work with the tip. Mr dervishcarving will back me up on this as he has my old teaching saw. and we cant forget the ms 192 if you can get hold of one. tom
  22. two full sleeves, both legs, various small bits and bobs dotted around and just started on my chest. my flesh tunnel is only 6mm so far. will post pics when i get round to it.
  23. get it painted i like natural wood but a bit of colour can transform a carving. the secret is to use decent wood stains in nice colours rather than the cheep pish that most peope would think of using. i also like to add highlights to areas of block colour using spray paints. my local skate boarding shop also sells a fantastic range of grafitti spray paints. but in the end it all comes down to personal prefrence.
  24. Almost every thing you look up on Fleabay there are buggers trying to scam you. i lost count of the amount of vw transporters i looked at that turned out to be. i emailed about one advertised as been in Norfolk and i got an email back saying he was in the army and was on a training course in aberdeen and the van was with him but he could have it delivered to me within a few days . when i said i was in arbroathjust down the road and could go pick it up i got a reply saying he was Special Forces and had to hide his identity so couldnt meet up but he could have it delivered within a few days. another one i contacted claimbed to be in doncaster but then sudenly he had moved to spain but could have it delivered........ you will see that they all use the same pattern. they wont let you use paypall they want you to use Yahoo or Google financial servives which do exist. however nither of them offer a third party service on transactions. its funny when you tell them you only deal face to face and in cash the email responces suddenly stop. i have started keeping their email addresses and using them when i have to put down an email address for a customer service servay. the one in spain who really anoyed me got signed up to a gay chat and date service as revenge.
  25. Bait them out into the open then get em with the 12 bore or .22 or if they are inside 410. my mate uses a Bikle hushpower but i like the boom inside the sheds it gets the terriers all riled up. if they are in burrown use a 2stroke engine and hose pipe. and the shotgun. ferret shite is good for shoving down the burrows you have cleared out to stop them moving back in, just keep it when you clean out your ferret hutch.
