  1. Cheers Stephen I'll message you on Facebook
  2. It's for trees and bouldering hence why I want both attachment points
  3. Hi guys. Do any of you take your kids climbing. I'm looking for a harness for my 6yr old. I'd prefer a full body harness with an attachment point on the back for climbing but want the front attachment point low enough that it can be used for abseiling without the fig8 been at face hight. All the ones with a back attachment seem to have a chest attachment rather than a waist. Any recommendations welcome. Cheers.
  4. ill be there again this year. i got a bit of a special carving planned this year. it will either be impresive or a spectacular fail.
  5. Gary spuddog was it you who was with the dude in the realtree cammo coat that i was talking to about saws. ( tom who did the dragon fly)
  6. nice work dude. i think dogs are one of those things you love or hate carving, i cant stand doing them. on a different note and no pun intended i like your bark effect.
  7. its funny reading through the comments i can tell the divers you all pay attention to detail. when i was carving it i would get andy to explain what each bit was and how it works and his attention to detail was constant down to the point i hadnt put a toggle on the jacket zip and he ask me to add one. most peole just look at the carving as a whole but i guess when your life depends on a but of kit and you check it religeously even on a subconsious level you know when somthing isnt quite right and it stands out a mile to you. i like that and it pushed me well out of my comfort zone and to a new level of carving i really enjoyed doing it but i couldnt carve to that detail every time of i think my head would explode.
  8. teepeeat its Andy Riley from Arbroath.
  9. Cheers for the feed back guys I was rather pleased with it
  10. Very well done. There is a campaign in one of the papers at the moment wanting people to recreate famous photos from VE Day this would fit right in with that
  11. no the pipe work is steam bent willow which is an art form all of its own that i had to learn.
  12. i carve with a 201 but have just got a 193 and its great the 150 is a pile o pish it vibrates like hell and is gutless. every one who bought a 150 will be gutted when they try the 193 and its only a few £ more than a 150. the 181 is also a good carving saw if you are on a budget but its a bit heavier. however it rolls from side to side well without jumping about to much which makes it great for learning to do tip work. i used to use they as my teaching saws.
  13. not posted in a while as iv been busy working on various secret projects but here is one i finished recently. the guy i did it for is celebrating 30 years working as a commercial diver this year. its doug fir and just over 7ft tall. i spent a total of just over 60 hrs on it.
  14. As Si said if you arnt carving with your say you would be better off with a quater tip bar.
  15. I'm having trouble bending wood. I have a steam box and am getting good steam pressure in it but my wood keeps either creasing or snapping. I am trying to bend fresh cut willow in the round ranging from half an inch to an inch and a half. The bends arnt all that tight. Iv tryed different lengths of time from an hour to 4 hrs and nothing seems to work. What am I doing wrong and is there a better wood I could be using. Cheers tom
  16. Hi guys. Is there any one on here in the angus area who is able to give me a price to shift 20 tons of logs in 24 ft lengths. I can cuf it down to 12ft if its easier. Going from just north of Forfar on the A90 to inverkeilor (A92 between Arbroath and Montrose). Please PM me if interested. Cheers tom
  17. Not posted in a while as iv had a busy summer doing demos, competitions, charity stuff and teaching but here is my most recent creation.
  18. They are getting decanted to Muirfield Broonie so its just going there with them. Im planning to do a load of stuff for the outdoor class room when they rebuild the school.
  19. Just finnished this bench for the nursery at my childrens school.
  20. hadnt thought of poplar i have one almost big enough laying at my shed. i think your right egg it prob makes more sence to shape the curve by hand. ill rough it out with my saw and then shape it with my angle grinder sander. i have several boards to copy the profile from.
  21. I have a B+D one. one of my most used tools for finishing. id be lost with out it. just remember to put the belts on the right way round or you will tear them apart in seconds.
  22. Hi all. iv decided yo have a go at caving myself a surfboard for a bit of fun. now the only problem i can see myself having is creating the curve at the front end. if i use a curved log like when making a cruk do you thinki i could create a flat board about 7 ft long with a curve at one end lifting the nose up about 3" at one end so the curve covered about 18" of the 7ft or should i just cut 5.5ft with the mill and shape the front end with a chainsaw. i want the grain to follow the curve so when i nose plant it ( which i will) ,it doesnt snap. oh and any body think of a good easy to get hold of wood to do it out of. i have some very dry and very thick grand fir i was thinking about but boyancy i going to be important me thinks. cheers tom
  23. Cheese bar........ would that be .....Stihlton?
  24. Im going to say somthing that I have no doubt will cause a but of an uproar But....... I dont like the 150. It is under powered and pish. Its only any use for tip work. The only thing it has going for it is its very light. I only use stihl saws but I will never buy a 150. A 181 will power a 14 inch normal bar enough for roughing out carvings before changing over to a carving bar if you only have one saw. The 181 is alot heavier than a 150 but the exrea weigh helps to keep the saw steady when you are learning to carve with the tip. The 181 also rolls from side to side nicely which helps when learning to carve with the tip. When I used to give lessons I used a 181. I now carve with a 201as my dime tip saw its lovely to carve with but it was bloody expensive. However although I carve as a hobby i carve atleast 15hrs a week so I was able to justfy it.
